Question E Studio 5055cse Dumping developer

    Hi All.

Kind of need a little help in this one. I am Ricoh and Kyocera trained. I got a service call on a ES 5055cse that was throwing a C380 code.
Went to the location and checked the the Developer and it was empty. Checked the drum unit and it was OK.
    Did the following:
    Auto toner sensor. I replaced
Harness. I replaced on Dev unit
LGC board. Looked OK and no burn marks .

Developer material. I replaced and did sim 05 2404.

After I did the 05 2404 I went to print off a test page. The code C380 came up again. I pulled the dev unit and it was empty, Pulled the drum unit and it had black lines on the back 1/3 and developer on it.

I rebuilt the drum unit, all Tosh parts and the dev unit. I did some reading and there was a mention of the blanking led failing and this would cause the issue also.

Ok I know how to enter SIM 03-235 to test them. One silly question is I have not reinstalled the K Developer or drum unit. This is because I do not want to dump another developer charge or damage the drum unit. Can I still test the Blanking LED without them installed? The service manual assumes you have been formally trained on Toshiba units.
Any Guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Check the white drum spacers when they or the drum wears especially if the drum has one line down the edge this will strip the dev.

Hi Clint, Thanks for the quick reply. I checked the drum and spacers. They are in good Shape. Barely showing ware on the drum. the drum has 120K pages and is in real good shape except for where the developer had damaged it while dumping.

The dumping was immediate after I changed it. Could not make a single copy.

What is the main charge like? Has the spring holder broken for the needle electrode

When I rebuilt the MC unit with new electrode and screen there was no sign of any breakage. The electrode looked good and so did the screen. I replaced the drum, bushing, main charger needle electrode the MC screen and the cleaning blade. I have kept all the bits and was comparing them to the new replacement ones.

I could not find faults when them except the drum was fubar from the developer dump. the unit was supposedly printing well before the c380 code came up.

This is an older unit and there is a known issue with arcing from the charge grid ends. There is also a rear drive gear issue(c380 but noisy as hell) and the mag roll bushings on this model are also known to fail. DV pull is usually related to a failing grid.

Thank you all so much for your assistance. I pretty much thought it was a drum charge issue. That is why I rebuilt the MC, Drum unit to eliminate this probability. Just wanted feedback information so I could prevent another catastrophe.

Will let you know my results when I do return to this unit.

    Thanks again.

Toshiba had a bulletin about this. Not sure if this is your problem, but something to think about.
The older versions of that machine had a charge corona block that would keep the grounding spring
from making good contact with the charge frame. The fix was a new charge block, but, the EASY
in the field 1,000 miles from the office fix was to simply cut off the offending part. I was going to
include the photo, but when I try to upload it, the ok/cancel box ONLY shows up on the URL linked
photo, not the upload jpeg photo for some reason.
