    Load LT-R and press [START]

Here's an interesting one on an e Studio 4505AC with booklet maker:

So my enduser prints these folded books to the booklet maker, no staples thank you.
These booklets are a mixture of black only pages, and a color front page.
Since all the other trays are full of other sizes, my enduser loads LT-R Plain to the bypass. It doesn't really matter if you load the paper before or after the print job is sent. When the job arrives it asks for confirmation of LT-R Plain in the bypass. I select Start to continue. It prints the cover to the booklet maker, then asks for confirmation of LT-R Plain in the bypass. I select Start to continue. It prints the remaining black only pages, then asks for confirmation of LT-R Plain in the bypass. I select Start to continue. It prints the cover page for the next set ... and on and on like this. As you can imagine 300 sets or 600 presses of the Start button could get a bit tedious.

So we did some experimenting. Color only images print without a prompt. Black only images print without a prompt. The prompt only occurs at the color/B&W image change, and only to the bypass. Prints from other trays (that can hold LT-R) print without a prompt.
I have come to the conclusion that the problem is that the bypass will not allow me to define the paper size as LT-R. You can choose LD, LG, LT, computer, A3, A4, A5, Arch B, COM10, and a variety of other sizes ... but not LT-R. If you look in OTHER SIZES there is a button, but it's grayed out. I can set it to a CUSTOM equivalent of LT-R in millimeters, but of course that doesn't help. It's not a match for LT-R.

So my mission is to define the bypass as LT-R Plain. It's already set to Plain in the Admin Mode. There may be a 08 Mode for that.

    I'm looking into
08-4140 bypass paper size 0-431 (millimeters?), default: 255, Desired: 279?
08-8737 restart behavior when out of paper is solved, 0: automatic restart, 1: press Start to restart, Desired: 0
    08-9143 time lag before auto restart, 0: press Start to restart, 1: 0.5sec, 2: 1sec, 3: 1.5sec, 4: 2sec, 5: 2.5sec, 6: 3sec, 7: 3.5sec, 8: 4sec, 9: 4.5sec, Desired: 4
08-9164 when paper is re-stocked paper is fed (remote), 0: OFF press Start to resume, 1: ON automatic feeding, Desired: 1
08-9165 when paper is re-stocked paper is fed (local), 0: OFF press Start to resume, 1: ON automatic feeding, Desired: 1
08-9305 bypass media type, 0: Plain, Desired: 0

    Can anybody contribute? =^..^=

Is it on the latest firmware? Can they not just change it out to a tray or can the other media not print on the bypass.
This should be fixable i hope. That would have been an over sight from the programmers.
    Whatever

Re: Load LT-R and press [START]

I see you listed 08-9164. On setup of every machine we set that to 1 so that if paper is on the bypass it will just start printing without needing a prompt from the panel. I wasn't sure if desired meant you had already set it to 1 or not. Maybe eliminating the need to press START to confirm will be a workaround?
But the not being able to set the bypass to LT-R is an old problem. I remember dealing with that on an e281c, and Toshiba told me there wasn't a solution at the time. Guess they're still working on it?
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

Re: Load LT-R and press [START]

    I believe this should work.......
    08-4140 = 80 (sets LT-R)
    08-4621 = 1 (turns off auto size)
    08-9164 = 1 (auto continue)
    08-9165 = 1 (auto continue)

    EDIT:
just tested this and it fed multiple sets without intervention from the bypass tray. Be sure to select bypass tray in the print driver.

That is the workaround I left them with: Load media to tray #1.

    My thoughts exactly.

Our setup guy enables 08-9165 (local) but not 08-9164 (remote). I wasn't sure exactly what the difference is. There explanation in the manual reads almost identically for both functions.

I've come across this before on another Toshiba but do not remember the outcome.

Thanks mojorolla! Exactly what I needed. I'll give it a shot.

In 08-4140. apparently 255 is not millimeters, just some sort of code.

This particular machine is not on TCC, but I got the defaults from an in-shop machine:
    08-4140: 255
    08-4621: 0 enabled size detection
    08-8737: 0 automatic restart
08-9143: 10 press Start to restart
08-9164: 0 press Start to resume Remote
    08-9165: 1 automatic feeding Local
    08-9305: 0 Plain media type

Not sure when I can get back, but going with these settings:
    08-4140 = 80 (sets LT-R)
    08-4621 = 1 (turns off auto size)
    08-9164 = 1 (auto continue)
    08-9165 = 1 (auto continue)

Gotta love the Japanese > English translation. Local is copy at the machine. Remote is actually printing.

Re: Load LT-R and press [START]

Success! My only minor complaint is a noticeable delay when restarting. It's not that noticeable considering the delays associated with the booklet maker. I wonder, though, if 08-9143 might shorten up that delay.

    Again, thanks! =^..^=
