Toshiba 283 no cassette operation. Add paper message is constant.

"Add paper" message is constant. Paper is present in both cassettes. Neither paper cassette will lift paper. Check both cassette detect switches both are ok. No power/voltage to lift motor gear box. Logic board bad? No schematics available. Thanks.

... Toshiba no longer supports this model. Discontinued in 2011.

I understand no Toshiba support but still looking for some expert tech support.

I seem to recall a case where a bad photointerrupter in one of the feed units prevented both from lifting. I can look it up later. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

.... maybe so but no parts are likely available.

This copier is now dead weight.

It was a tray #2 paper empty sensor, and yes, neither tray would lift. It's one of those Sharp73 sensors (C0-10813000), that were so troublesome. =^..^=

Re: Toshiba 283 no cassette operation. Add paper message is constant.

I had a couple of those that did something similar, no lift that ticked me off.
One, I checked the voltage at the LOGIC board and the voltage to turn on the motor was
there, but the motor wouldn't lift. I checked the voltage at the motor. It wasn't there.
cut all the wire ties and still couldn't find anything. pulled the motor out and the wire
had a shrink wrap tube over it. The wire was broken, the shrink wrap tube held it together!

The other was a whack-a-doodle one. Sometimes it would feed, sometimes it wouldn't.
In 03 mode, sensors checked ok. In 04 mode, motors worked.
Machine was in a tight location, so I disconnected the finisher so I could have more room.
Then the damn think started working! Went to check the 5volts and it was 4.91. When I reconnected
the finisher, it was 4.83. Apparently the dc power supply was low enough on 5volts that it would play
whack a mole with the feed of the machine. The key for me, was sometimes it would also jam, and
the only way to clear it was to power off/on. In 03 mode, 04 mode there wasn't enough load on the
power supply to trigger the error.
I use to see that A LOT with the old 200 series, 350/450 series. On those, you could tweak the power
supply by cranking up the pot on the LVPS, but the removed it on the 2x3 and 3x3 series machines.
If they would (but they never will) give me a damn schematic, it would be easy to swap out a different
resistor on the circuit to boost up the 5v power just enough to stop the issue. But no, send it off get a
new one and hope it has enough to stop the issue.
I hate switching regulators. I'd prefer a linear one, but they are more expensive.

    Sorry for the rant...
I worked for Texas Instruments from 80-81 and all I did was work on switching regulator power supplies.

There was also a common issue with the tray lifter gear pack assembly. The gears inside would often break. I would take the assembly apart and look for missing gear teeth.
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?
