4515AC user code printing pdf from Mac

There is an option checbox to print in grayscale black and white and when doing so, the print is held in the invalid box at the panel until the user enters their code. Print is in grayscale, but the color meter upticks instead of the bw.

Need help splainin' this to the customer.

    Firmware is updated.

What version of OSX does the customer have? If V10 High Sierra, Dept Codes will never work properly.

If prints are going to the Invalid queue something is not configured properly on your side.

They have other Macs that are printing just fine with user codes. Is it a configuration on the machine or driver on this one PC?

It may depend on the content of the files being printed.

I once had a Canon customer who printed Word docs (from Windows) which contained jpg images that were scans.

He had the same issue: Even though he selected grayscale when printing, the color meters got clicked.

Try printing different color files using grayscale with different content and from different sources to see if the problem changes.

Your response indicates a problem on a single MAC so it is likely an out of date OSX or a print driver issue.

Have the user print a simple Word document and observes what happens. The Top Access print logs might give some clues.

If the MAC user prints PDF try to select the colour option in the print driver and do not use the greyscale checkbox withing the PDF print dialog, I've seen this before where the print job is counted as colour instead of 'greyscale'.

When the print job goes to the Invalid Queue, with Department codes enabled, then there is a driver issue for that particular MAC - the job is sent without a valid code. Install the proper Toshiba ppd driver.
