xerox work center 7225 wont boot up. it was slow scanning.

Hi Guys, I hope you had a nice weekend.

i was wondering if this box with this issue is similar to the W.C. 7556?

that one with help from here, (thank you Bacon and Phil), i had changed the ECM fan and months latter, i did the altboot.

this customer called and said he had attempted do the alt boot but after a long time it didn't take. but that is does boot sometimes.

and several "authorized xerox" repair people were there and couldn't fix it. and that someone also changed the power supply, and obviously that did not resolve the issue.

and since many times they said it wont boot after a long time being off, it may not indicate the fan alone?

also, i think the firmware guide said it would take 2.5 hours to do the firmware.

i wonder if its the HDD, or since its far, if i should even bother.

just wondering what your thoughts are.

    thank you very much, Jim

yeah a PS is a BS call IMHO

and yes it can, with all options, take that long.

have you tried to boot w/o hdd? any errors?

    should you even bother?
    depends...
    how good of a customer?
how much have you got in it so far?
some errors will stay out of site until major issue fixed

this is ONE reason I HATE xerox.

Hi Phil, i have not tried anything other than several return calls and texts to this customer i don't know.

i wish it was closer, then i would go there with a SDD, and see what happens. just hate to turn down something that may be easy, but i know it could turn out the other way fast.

sounds like they have had several repair people, along with their IT person trying to resolve it.

surprisingly, the IT, i think that is who it is, knew about putting the DLM file on a USB drive,

    and said he

"prepared a USB drive with the altboot folder that contained the .dlm firmware file and placed a FORCED_UPDATE empty text file at the root, next to the altboot file.
it did not recognize it. i tried both the upper and lower USB ports."

i wonder if that second file would cause the update to not go to the dlm file?? i have only done this on the work center 7556.

I would start with replacing hdd (250GB) even used one - just to check (regular not forced altboot). There is also error code displayed at the left rear (located where are all ports like network USB etc...)

Won't boot after a long time being off? Sounds like the battery to me.

    Hi Guys,
    that sounds good.
well, when i said a "long time" i ment maybe hours, not days.

will a solid state drive work in it, as all the new ones being sold to replace the HDD are SSD. (i am not referring to the type that goes in the PLCe slot.) but the HDD slot.
