Exactly how did you put the DC252 back to factory defaults? Did you use 'Delete All Data'?
The crossover ethernet cable between de DC252 en the Fiery bustled is only needed for scanning. The large SCSI cable takes care of communication between the Fiery and the DC252. If you boot the DC252 the Fiery should also boot. There is a tiny LCD screen on the Fiery which should display '00' if all is good. After 5 minutes or so, you should be able to find 'network controller' settings in your system settings. If it doesn't show up there, you have a defective Fiery, a bad cable, or a bad video card on the ESS.
