Have you tried resetting it through the HFSI counter in diags?

I have had that occur before, as well as a phantom jam that wouldn't go away.
(I have had this on four machines)

Turned out to be the main board, and then after replacement a full ALTBOOT with latest firmware problem solved.

I know it's not the answer you were looking for, just giving you my experience.
