I would not be causing this problem by using an aftermarket firewire ieee1394b from side rear of copier to controller box, would I?
The Xerox firewire that is silver cable is not proprietary is it? Can't be is my thinking - both are ieee1394b and both are 9 pin male each end.
the original firewire cable was missing when I got unit and I just ordered a replacement online. it is shooting no codes of its own on display

try to remove that cable ant power on machine.
if you get same problem then try with another cable.

actually the fireware cable works fine - if I remove the cable it never even goes to ready because it picks up a firewire communication problem before it even goes to ready

Well, nothing working. Still getting message on control panel "Xerographic system error call service"
Have checked drive motor for black drum it is OK; have updated system software to newest version; have put in new scorotron over drum, nothing working.
This has got to be something simple! Should I try a different drum? Though I here no drum drve chunks or gears grinding so it seems it should be OK there.

What Code NOW?
What did you get (in terms of codes) after the software update?
Same 3-338 ?
Which version of software are you running now?
I can't find a reference to the 9-548 code anywhere either.

software version is 040.032.53080
from machine status-->faults-->current faults shows nothing
machine status-->faults-->fault history-->1:03PM (current time) 91.320.00
the 09-548 is only seen when I open Internet Explorer and connect to the 7665 via the IP address which connects me to CentreWare Internet Services program for desktop PC.

put a new corotron on so it is not that. where is the HVPS? tech looked and said all connections intact. this is strange - I powered up copier, got the messgae on display "Xerographic system problem etc" switched around black toner cartridges, and message went away. But when I go to copy nothing happens

I think it is the charge pre-clean HVPS or the MCU board. I know the MCU board is behind rear covers - where does the book show the charge preclean HVPS as its location?
Right now, the message has gone away and when you press copy the graphic on display shows paper going through path but that is all it does - no paper feeds through the machine, no clutches move, zero.
