    iRC 3220N universal send

    hi
    i have 2 canon iRc 3220N
one machine have the universal send function (scan to pc, iFax, scan to email)
    one machine doesn't have.

i checked the service manual and found that you need 2 items to activate this function:

    1) universal send kit
    2) resolution switching board

both machine have the resolution switching board.

can anybody help find out where is the universal send kit located?
or on how to activate this function.
    thanks in advance!

      U-send kit

one guy from another forum replied to my post with this:

"You will need to get a certificate (purchase the kit). On the certificate is a web address and a product code.
Go to the website input the product code, serial number and license string on the certificate. The web site will give you a code to enter into the machine. Additional functions/ then either scroll down to license management or it is under the admin settings. All of this is in the license kit."

      is this true?

The newer machines what Canon calls LMS, that is the certificate, the older machines use hardware, as stated above you need what they call a dongle, either a parallel or usb, in the us I have only seen parallel.

            U-Send

What happens is when you plug that dongel into the first machine you have to run through a series of stuff in order to get that u-send on that machine and when you are done it permenently writes the serial number of that machine to that dongel, hence it is not transferable. You would have to purchase another U-Send kit.

Are you "borrowing" this number from another machine?

The license application process starts at the Canon LMS website with a certificate number from the package that is input into the webpage along with the serial number of the copier you are going to apply the license to. If you input the wrong serial number into the process, Canon needs to be involved to reissue a different number. If the number was from a different copier, that was used in the key issuing process, the resulting 24# key will not work. It is based on an algorythm, and the mismatch of serial to 24# key will not allow the license to be registered.

I have never had difficulty entering a valid license, unless there was missing hardware, at which time the copier will give you the message that those items are needed to accomplish the task.

I am still a little confused here,, what access number are you refering to? If you bought the software,,, in the box is a certificate with the number on it, and the web address of the site that you use to convert your number from the certificate, along with the serial number, into the resulting 24 number string that is the copier license.

You will have to contact Canon if this certificate has been lost, but they will need a receipt or some kind of record to assist you. Otherwise you may have to re-purchase the feature and start again.

There is no magic pill here, the whole process was well thought out to insure that the end users or service providers were not going to be able to utilyze some feature on the copier without paying Canon there fee for it's useage.
