    Unhappy sc7700 RIP / ethernet / rp3700 connection problem

    Hello All,
I am just setting up a risograph RP3700 with an SC7700 RIP. I have been attempting to connect to the rip via an ethernet cable on a Mac running OS 10.4.1.
I received the following instruction from someone who is using the same RIP and running from OS X as well:

"The technician who did the installation on my machine before I bought it, sent me the printer driver for the SC7700 and told me to place it here:

    System/library/printers/ppds/content/resources/de.lproj

Then you can add the Riso just like any other printer using the System Preferences. With mine, that worked very easily."

So, I installed the driver in the appropriate folder. When I first did this the computer detected the RIP through appletalk when I went to "add new printer". As it seemed to be taking awhile to load, I cancelled it and have since been unable to locate the RIP when attempting to add a new printer. Furthermore, when I first attempted sc7700 had only the green light on and communication seemed to be working. Once I cancelled the process, every time i turn the rip on it does nothing more than display all the lights red, yellow and green and they occasionally blink in unison.

Thank you in advance for any suggestion!
    Lucas

Three lights flashing are no good!

In the past when I had a Rip that would flash like this it would mean that the HD in the rip had gone bad. This could be the issue, but I am unsure. I am pretty sure that you can reset the RIP to factory defaults by holding the stop and function keys in while you turn it on. Sometimes they reset and are fine other times it is the hard drive. Good luck on this also.

    Thanks for your help Joelsa,

If the HD in the RIP is dead, can it be replaced, or does it mean that the whole thing is junk?

    HD in RIP

Well the only bad thing is that the HD handshakes with a serial number on the card that the Riso plugs into in the back of the RIP. I am pretty sure they have to be replaced as a set which is expensive. I would not replace them. I have 7700 if you are going to need it. I also remember that the RIP defaults to having DHCP turned on. The RIP will cycle until an IP number is pushed to it. I think you can download the tool to send an IP address to the RIP from Riso's website. You might try to do that and see if it will boot up before pronouncing it dead.
