What do you guys do with sticky solenoids?

    [Electrical] What do you guys do with sticky solenoids?

    I see solenoids sticking a lot on Cannon & HP. I always just take the deteriorated pad/sticker off and put it back together. I had heard that this could cause the plate to magnetize, and the solenoid would continue to stick. I've only witnessed this actually happen once, on the pickup on a HP 4200. So I just bent the plate that had the pad on it, so the metal plate didn't contact it or the magnet directly. Do any of you guys bother replacing the solenoid or adding your own tape?

      Just regular scotch tape will prevent the residual magnetism from building up; wrap a couple times around armature.

          I have two choices of replacement pads:
          1) Other language self-adhesive control panel stickers are made of a nice thick material and will never get sticky.
          2) I have a section of old bicycle inner tube and a single hole hand punch. You can punch a nice 6mm disk of 1mm thick rubber and adhere it with superglue.

          I don't like vinyl electrical tape because it will eventually peel off or migrate around, leaving sticky stuff. =^..^=
          If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

              I like that idea of panel stickers instead of tape - you've made a convert, tks.

                  I'll never run out of those stickers, and they come with those cool Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, French, and Portuguese words that I can't read. =^..^=

                      So far, bending the metal tab up is working for me. But I might keep a few inner-tube pieces handy just in case.

                          Same to me since at least 30 years. (gosh, am I realy so long in this stinking business??)

                          They make up also very nice guides/edges for those stupid note book touch pads without rims.
