Falcon 3 slowing down in reaction speed

KM-4050, KM-5050 Falcon 3

We have some customers with Falcon3 machines, who have a problem that the machine is slowing down in reaction speed then the machine has being runing for about a week to a month, typical 14 days. When printing to the machine it takes about 2 minutes before the job is starting up, and when you copy on the machine it takes about 40 sec. before the machine start copying.
The speed is gradually reducing, it is not coming out off the blue from one second to another .

The machines are in different configuration, but the most basic machine with the problem is KM-5050 with only one option installed the Fax system.
We have tried to install more memory, upgrade the firmware and so on.
The problems started with the software ver 2.04C then the display operation was optimized.
We have tried with the 2.05 and but still problems. The 2.06 is still under test.

Ver 2.06 2008.03.14

Main 2GR_2000.017.014
Engine 2GR_1000.012.003
MMI 2GR_7000.017.013
Engine Boot 2GR_1100.001.007
Scanner 2GR_1200.004.001
Option language 2GR_81DK.005.001
FAX Boot 3KH_5000.007.004
Fax APL 1 3KH_5100.008.003
Fax IPL1 3KH_5200.001.033

I don't now if the firmware is the same for Europe and US.

The only way to get the machine to run at full speed again is to remove power plug wait for a while and plug it in again. This is not the right solution specially not for a law company.

Any idea how to solve the problem, and no good ideas with a on/off timer ;-)

Have you tried formatting the HDD? I had one Falcon 3 that was very slow to respond to the start buton and formatting the hard drive was the fix, it has been fine for 4 months since.

Do you get any CFxxx codes?

We will try to format the harddisk.
Do you make a backup of the settings in U917
Format the disk in U024, and restore the settings in U917 again ?

The customer has not complained over CFxxx errors.
Do you now is there a list over the CF errors

I sure wish there was a list of the CF--- errors.

This is the useful bit of advice in the service manual:
In addition, it is a system error if the following error code is displayed. When an error has occurred, clear the error by
turning the main power switch off then on.
CF1XX, CF2XX, CF3XX, CF4XX, CF5XX, CF6XX, CF7XX, CFAXX, CFBXX, 0xFBXX

I've found that re-loading the same firmware seems to help temporarily. It might just be the effect you describe of turning off the machine though.

In the USA we are currently using v. 2.05A of the firmware, dated 08 March 2008.

If you print a U000 Event Log before you do your all clear it will show any CF codes since the last reset. Often this is the only documentation I can get on these codes. My customers usually clear the code before they call me, then can't remember what the code was.

I've also noticed the slowing reaction time on the little Falcons 2540, 3040, 2560, 3060.

Here is a list of some error codes and scanner codes for the falcon-3 machines given to me by a kyocera rep. Tab to toggle from scanner error list to system error list is at bottom left corner of document. May not be what ya were looking for, but who knows.. good luck P.S.- Due to it being an excel spreadsheet, it would not attach directly, so it is attached as a compressed folder.

Have you actually tried performing a firmware upgrade?

I did a firmware upgrade on a 5050i a couple of days ago. I went from The version dated 12-05-07 to version 2.06 dated 3-14-08. The customer was complaining about the response time of the touchscreen and the long wait times for printing and copying. The difference after the upgrade was very noticable immediately by the customer. I am going to check back with them this afternoon to see how they are doing, but when I left the other day they were very happy.

Version 2.20 firmware hit the street last week in the US, it definitely helps speed up the op panel response and some other issues you detailed in your post.

Check your firmware versions, version up first, then do a format of the HDD. Backup any settings with the falcon 3 backup tool. You probably already know, but check your printer driver default printing preferences uncheck collate. There are 2 places to look and change this. From Properties of Print driver, on the first tab, printing preferences, also under advanced tab on driver properties default printing preferences. Both printing pages look the same, but both are stored in separate registry entries.
