Drove 74 miles today to a 500ci with a customer description of "document feeder not working right." Well, after a 1.5 hour drive, I arrived @ location to see a message in the display saying "cannot do 2 sided original due to failure"..After a 906 reboot, the copier began displaying " system error,,wait..self diaganosing''. This lasted for quite some time before finally showing a C3210 code. After a quick look in the manual, I realized it was a code for the side 2 CIS lamp.. In U061 the manual says it will turn on the copier scanning lamp and the CIS also..The CIS does not turn on...After a long discussion with tech support, I was no furthur along..There are several possibilities including DP driver PWB..inverter PWB...etc. including the CIS itelf.What I'm asking I guess is has anyone else seen this and what was the culprit.?? I was able to leave the copier running with the can't do 2 sided due to failure message but getting all these pwb's together is not going to be a quick acomplishment. Just looking for someone whose been a victum of this too.. C3210,C3210.no cis lamp

The manual suggests re-seating connectors etc., which didn't help a bit. I ended up changing the CIS (~$2K cost). If you do change the CIS you'll have to run U411 CIS shading adjustment. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Just an FYI, I had this happen on a machine and it turned out the CIS cooling fan wasn't working properly and blowing lamps. Save yourself the headache and go ahead and get the fan also.Comment

Thanks ..Since the copier is so far from the office, I took another one to the customer so they'll be back to normal and I can troubleshoot the doc feeder inshop...This also eliminates the main PWB and the pigyback ip connector.. Replaced CIS with one from "boneyard" copier. Problem fixed. Also, replaced small CIS fan.It was NOT coming on eitherComment

The CIS is a lamp/led inside the double-sided doc feed that you can get with these machines. It's fairly easy to replace. CCD is the main camera taking the picture.Comment

Ok. Thanks... have the same issue with a 500ci!
I reseated allready the cables on the pwb and also the cable near the LAN connection.
The client called back with the same problem...i'll replace;3LK94020 PARTS INVERTER COLOR PWB (Dual Scan DP) and 3LK94010 PARTS SHD PWB ASSY SP (Dual Scan DP).
I read the cooler better change too?Comment

Is it possible to remove this dual scan function and use the machine without the CIS?
I guess i have to remove the connection board on the main pwb where the black CIS cable is connected with?

The machine will isolate the CIS. You'll be able to scan single sided originals, but not double sided originals.
No you will not be able to scan double sided originals with the CIS isolated. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:

I know this is an old thread, but since you will see the C3210 code on the new series, make sure that you check the following:
1) when testing the CIS lamp, make sure that you cheat the DP top cover switch first.
2) while it is open clean the white reference roller. It causes 3100 codes. The only cleaner that works is rubber rejuvenator. Other cleaners are worthless.
