    MP 4000 Cleaning Web Assembly

I know these machines were notorious for the hex screw stripping out. Ricoh updated the hex screws to help prevent that. These assemblies are costly when they have to be replaced. What tools are any of you using to extract the rounded out screw?

I've used my star drivers with success.
There is a great post on here to mod these fusers with an oil roller rather than replacing the web. Doesn't help with getting the hex screw out, I know, but ya wont have to worry about it next time.

I had to leave one without a cleaner for a weekend until I could get the parts I needed and did think when I returned and had a look at the condition that these were not needed. Customer printed 20K that weekend, not quite 600K I know.

I have never stripped one out so I haven't had to find a tool for that problem but, a co worker says he has had to get his Dremmel tool out and cut off the shaft with the screw on it.

We have lots of them running without cleaner units. For a small dealer Saves a lot of time and money , which compensates for the s**t dev life they have.

What you can do to extract the shaft with a fused set screw is cut the web off and remove the bushings and E-clips on the opposite end, as well as the ones on the side with the gear and set screw. it's cheaper to carry a new gear and bushings in stock with a bag of the new style set screws shared between a batch of techs than it is to keep buying web units all the time.

As many people have said over and over, this is an incredibly over-engineered piece of garbage anyway. Why not something as elegant at the MP 6000 web???

We let the web run out, reset the message, break off the web end sensor flag. Then run the machine without a web. They all seem to fun fine, and the HR life doesn't to seem to suffer at all.

And if the above solutions (All good) don't work, there is a modified screw!

Another approach make sure the unit is fully cooled (if possible) and use either a battery post puller or gear puller (clunky but effective) the gear and screw are reusable and if you you dont crank down on the screw you should be good
