    AR161 squeezing + expanding letters in 3/8 " area up + down page

    Customer has 11" paper loaded the short way. In an are that measures about 3+5/8" from left side of paper and extending about 3/8 of an inch.The letter on the left side of this 3/8" area are squeezed meaning about 3 low case characters. The letters on the right side of this 3/8" area are expanded or stretched. This would only be 1 or 2 character due to expansion. We are only dealong with about 5 characters when lower case format and maybe 3 whenI am not sure what is causing it.
    Customer does say that it only happens when using glass and not when using document feeder. So evidently it is happenen only when scanning from the left side of machine and not from right side as though saomething is momentarily interfering with the scan from left side.
    I just want to be prepared with anything you might think of in case I don't think of it or I miss it when I go there. Thanks you for any help you may offer. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

      Check your rails for contamination, clean and lightly lube. Also, check your pulleys and wires for wear or contamination. Sounds like the #1 or #2,3 mirrors might be bouncing as it's scanning.

          I know that logic leads you to a scanning issue, but the references I have to stretched and/or compressed images images all refer to drive problems. Once you delve into this a little deeper, I suspect that you'll rule out the scanner. I've had very little trouble with these scanners.

          Streaks in the feed direction. Stretched and compressed areas of the image at random intervals, on AR-161. The wiper blade flipped. Replace the drum wiper, and drum if it is damaged.

          Compression blur 23 mm from the trail edge of legal size Bulletin paper (only) on AR-M205. The paper shifts as it leaves the registration rollers. Unsuitable paper.

          Blurr at 94 mm intervals in the crossfeed direction on AR-160. Drum ground bars caused by drum coating wearing through. Replace the drum (AR-202DR) and blade (UCLEZ0009QSZZ).

          Stretched image only through DF, especially duplex originals on AR-207. The DF transport clutch slips. Replace the DF transport clutch (PCLC-0002QSZZ). The brass rings may be pried off to disassemble & clean the parts thoroughly (with limited success).

                  The left middle screw on the top of the front panel was a little longer then the correct screw and was catching the scanner as it went by. It was my fault as I very recently changed the laser unit ant put the wrong panel screw back in. Frank
