On 12 June 2008, IEEE approved the 802.20 standard for mobile broadband wireless access. The TDD version of the standard is based on Kyocera's iBurst-based proposal. The Japanese vendor hopes that the adoption of iBurst as an IEEE standard will give the technology a commercial boost. The main benefits of iBurst wireless broadband technology include its IP nativity, smart-antenna features and seamless handover capabilities at vehicular speeds.
