While it takes a 2/3 vote in the Senate to convict Trump of an impeachable offence, I am reading that it only takes a majority vote to bar him from seeking the White House again.

In a few short days, the Democrats will hold the majority vote with VP Harris casting the deciding vote.

Note the 2/3 vote is of the Senators present in the room the day of the vote. All 100 Senators may not be present as some Senators may prefer to just not attend. 67 votes are not necessarily required.

There is one major factor that you are apparently not aware of. Until Harris is sworn in as Vice President, she is just another Senator. She is one of the 48 Democrat Senate members. That is right, only 48. There are 2 Independent Senators that normally caucus with the Democrats but could at any time change sides. But I digress, it will be current Vice President Pence that will the deciding 51st vote. He will also be the one who will schedule the Senate trial and there is nothing that requires any time window for that trial.

Once Harris is sworn in as Vice President and until California elects or appoints a replacement for her the Republicans will still hold the Majority.

Also by the time Harris is sworn in Donald Trump will not be the sitting President and therefore there can be no trial.

Perhaps Wall Street had already baked in all of its expectations for the much-anticipated plan. Or perhaps the market remained distracted by COVID itself, which is still taking a hefty toll here in the U.S. as the vaccine rollout seems to crawl forward. Also of some concern was the start of the Q4 earnings season – mixed results from Citigroup (C, -6.9%) and Wells Fargo (WFC, -7.8%) weighed on those stocks and the rest of the financial sector.

There is a global realization amongst investors that there is a tremendous amount of national debt being piled up around the world. Treasuries are printing currency as fast as possible further diluting the world gold standard.

Biden will be calling on the best financial minds in the world to try and navigate the USA economy forward in a financially responsible way. Trump left the USA and global economies in a perilous state.

Biden's challenge to revise the economy will be greater than the challenge that President Obama when he first took office. Biden has the advantage of that experience. Obama never had to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic paired with an economic downfall.

Biden's only real lever is to spend his way out of this whole.

I think the entire USA has to patriotically buy in to Biden's plan for the USA to succeed. A divided nation helps no one during this grave dual crisis.

There are many people on this thread and in social media who want Biden to fail and resulting in the USA falling further before he even taker his first day in office.

In so many ways, the greatest lie was "Make America Great Again!"
