Hi, All. I have been driving a company vehicle for years, now the company may do away with that. For you guys that drive your own vehicle for service, what kind of compensation do you get? I guess I'm asking how many compensated miles do you drive, and at what rate?

I picked up a 2001 Lexus RX300 with 121k miles on it for around 3k. I now have 250k miles on itand it still runs great and I have just done the basics such as tires, brakes, oil, etc. It's been very affordable to run and very reliable. We are paid .58 per mile. -

In Florida most Echeapo Companies are half the IRS standard or less.
Worked for one for 24 years ECHEAPO always was a battle until they did an adjustable fee but
still much lower than IRS. They said we cheated on mileage so we always did.
Got to work for a company that has company vehicles with GPS trackers and low mileage fee but the plus side we could you them on personal time and vacations.Comment

my company has been doing this for the last 30 years. you need to know how many miles driven in a year. how much room need to carry parts determine vehicle needed and good on gas mileage most use a 6 cylinder engine. The most important thing is how much they are paying per mile and will it cover your cost to run that vehicle. One other thing insurance you will need to find out how much coverage you will need from your company. the insurance provider that company use will say tech will have to carry this amount. It is up to you to decide if it is still worth working for them. Most of our tech buy used vehicle they know will run vehicle into the ground.Comment

When i worked for the big red R, i had a brand new 2011 Chevy HHR panel. held all my stock, got about 32 mpg. i was a rural tech, lot of territory, averaged 1000 miles a week. 7 windshields, 1 transmission and 5 sets of tires later. i quit and changed companies. let the car go 4 years later (2015) with 198000 on it. should have let it go tho. my dodge pick up with a hemi doesnt get near the mileage, but i dont use it for work either.Comment
