The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

"In the last decade, the U.S. has more than doubled oil production to 12.3 million barrels a day, making it the world’s largest producer. "

The US is about to send a lot more oil into an oversupplied market

An amazing turn around story from when in the 1980s-2000s the USA use to be heavily dependent upon mid-east oil sending billions of dollars outside the country every month to nations whose loyalty to the USA was at many times in doubt.

I can't find current numbers but I think it is safe to say that the USA now exports approx 2 million more barrels per day than it imports.

Effective today, China has imposed a 5% retaliatory tariff on all US crude oil entering their country.

This is the first time that US oil has been targeted since the two countries began their year long trade war.

Re: The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

The Saudis reclaimed the top exporter’s spot in July and August as hurricanes disrupted U.S. production and the trade dispute “made it more difficult for shale shipments to find markets,”

The expansion in America’s exports in June was helped by a surge in crude-oil shipments to more than three million barrels a day, the International Energy Association said. At the time, Saudi Arabia was cutting its exports as part of the OPEC+ agreement, while Russian flows were constrained by the Druzhba pipeline crisis.

U.S. beats Saudi Arabia to become top oil exporter on shale boom - BNN Bloomberg

Russia is the world’s second largest oil exporter after Saudi Arabia. Since April 20thnearly 5 million tons of Russian crude bound for Europe has been stuck in westbound pipelines. The flow of oil is suspended due to high levels of contamination. The contaminated oil was being shipped via the Druzhba (Friendship) pipeline which boasts an impressive 1 million barrels per day capacity, or 1% of total global crude demand. Russia is losing half a billion dollars a day in oil profits revenue that the country desperately needs amidst biting U.S. sanctions and years of anemic economic growth.

The heavy excess of organochlorine in the pipeline is dangerous not only to refining equipment but also people: when exposed to high temperatures the compound creates a poisonous chlorine gas much like that used on the battlefields of World War I.

Re: The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

Iranian backed Houthi rebels launched a successful drone attack today on a key Saudi Arabian oil refinery taking an estimated short term 5M barrels of oil per day off the world's daily oil supply.

Although there is lots of oil available elsewhere in the world it remains to be seen how fast Saudi Arabia can get this facility back up and running.

This first ever large scale attack on an oil refinery via drones could very well put the USA back in first place for global oil exports but also come Monday dramatically increase the price of oil.

USA Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran today of an "unprecedented attack" on Saudi oil facilities.

Pompeo accuses Iran of '''unprecedented attack''' after drones hit Saudi oil facilities | Fox News

Saturday's attack comes after weeks of similar drone assaults on other parts of Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure but no attack has been nearly as successful as this one. The attack can only heighten tensions across the Persian Gulf.

Re: The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

Crude oil prices are spiking 11-18% in overnight trading. Gasoline prices will increase at the pump within days.

The drone attack on the world's largest oil refinery took 50% of Saudi Arabia's oil capacity offline for days, maybe weeks!

President trump released the USA's strategic oil reserve to help stabilize supply.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve containing 645 millions barrels of oil is the worlds largest back up supply. It is a complex of four sites along the Texas and Louisiana gulf coasts that have deep underground storage caverns 2,000 to 4,000 feet below the surface.

President Trump tweeted tonight that the USA is "locked and loaded" to retaliate once the oil refinery attackers are verified with more US military resources being retasked or enroute.

The opening salvo will likely be made by the US Cyber Command with an electronic strike similar to what happened when Iran shot down an expensive USA Predator drone over the Persian Gulf.

Drone attacks is a whole new ball game. As USA has thousands of unprotected sights (soft targets) including , power grids, water supplies, power dams, Airports, Stadiums , Nuclear plants and the same oil refinery's.

The largest sources of U.S. imported oil were: Canada (40%), Saudi Arabia (11%), Venezuela (9%), Mexico (8%), and Colombia (4%). According to the American Petroleum Institute

Forensic experts are on site now searching for fragments of the drones that will help identify the attacker. Iran is known to have been training the Houthis in drone technology, taking groups to master assembling, managing and repairing drones.

'Drone' attack on Saudis destabilises an already volatile region - BBC News

Both the range over which this most recent operation was conducted and the accuracy and scale of the strikes make this a different order of magnitude altogether.

So was it really armed drones that conducted these attacks (UAVs) or was it some kind of missile strike?

In 2018, a report from a UN expert panel pointed to the remarkable similarity between the Houthi Qasef-1 UAV and the Iranian Ababil-T.

However, the Qasef-1/Ababil-T only has a range of about 100-150km. The distance from the Yemeni border to the closest target - the Khurais oil field - is about 770 km. So if these recent attacks were carried out by a UAV it would have to have been of an altogether different design, with hugely increased range and a significantly greater level of reliability.

Some kind of cruise missile might also be a possibility, perhaps fired from either Iraq or Iran, but clarity on these questions will require access to reliable intelligence information.

Iran, along with its Houthi allies, is conducting a classic war of the weak against the strong; a "hybrid conflict" as it is known in the strategic textbooks. It is borrowing many of the tactics from the Russian play-book - the use of deniability; proxies; cyber operations and information warfare.

Re: The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

It now seems clear that Iran covertly attacked Saudi Arabia's oil producing capability with a combination of 25 accurately targeted cruise missiles and drones.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo declared the attack an "act of war" against Saudi Arabia.

While global oil prices temporarily rose they have since fallen back to near normal levels as Saudi Arabia announced today that they expect to be able to repair their damaged facilities by month end.

President Trump has announced greatly increased economic sanctions against against Iran but no details have been yet published. The President reminded all that it was not the USA that was attacked. Saudi Arabia is the world's largest buyer of US military hardware and 3rd largest overall.

The US seems content to let Saudi Arabia respond directly to the attack side stepping any military action on its part. Tensions in the Middle East have risen dramatically and many fear that letting this attack go unanswered encourages further bad behaviour by Iran.

A whole new world of low cost, remotely guided devastating attacks on vulnerable economic and social facilities (like a soccer stadium) now seem possible.

At the request of Saudi Arabia, “The president has approved the deployment of U.S. forces which will be defensive in nature and primarily focused on air and missile defense,” The number of troops will be in the 100s not 1000s.

No details on any new sanctions threatened against Iran earlier this week.

Despite the hundreds of billions of $ Saudi Arabia has spent on US arms, the Saudi's army has displayed a pathetic ability to conduct military operations. There is little loyalty within Saudi armed forces towards the ruling family other than what money can buy. Saudi cannot risk war against Iran because they know that they would quickly lose.

Re: The USA is the world's largest oil producer!

On Friday, the USA imposed the largest ever sanctions on Iran's Central Bank in response to the Saudi oil refinery attack as an extension of its strategy towards Iran known as "maximum pressure".

US officials say their pressure on Iran is working — and that’s why tensions are getting worse - Vox

Economic sanctions may include various forms of trade barriers, tariffs, and restrictions on financial transactions.

Going forward the Iranian gov't should find it much more difficult to get loans and transfer money further reducing economic output within its country. Sanctions would include the freezing of Iranian funds in the US banking system making these funds impossible to access. The effect will be both rising prices on many goods and product shortages.

Those countries that choose to violate these sanctions and trade with Iran put themselves at risk of US sanctions.

The US does not have a formal treaty alliance with Saudi Arabia and thus is not required to respond to acts of aggression on its soil.

A central mistake of this US policy is that it expects that by exerting max pressure on Iran, it will force Iran back to the negotiating table. In any conflict, one side is never in complete control. Iran can retaliate, at will, by attacking the critical flow of oil through the Persian Gulf and the oil facilities around it regardless of the economic cost imposed upon it.

In the famous book "The Art of War", Sun Zhu writes that victory is only possible with a leader who knows when to pick his battles and is prepared. Defeat is all but guaranteed with a leader who is reckless, mercurial and prideful.

The US Air Force is deploying to Saudi Arabia a drone killing microwave weapon in response to recent Iranian attacks on oil refining facilities that effected 5% of the world's daily supply.

PHASER Microwave Weapon - The Air Force Is Deploying PHASER

The Pentagon notified Congress of its purchase of a microwave weapon system designed to knock down swarms of enemy drones with pulses of energy. The purchase comes with an intent to deploy the PHASER system overseas for a year-long assessment, making it the first directed energy defense weapon to ever be fielded.

The system uses microwaves to disable Class One and Class Two drones, ones that are less than 55 pounds and fly at altitudes of 1,200 to 3,500 feet at speeds between 100 and 200 knots.

Today Saudi Arabia, the lowest cost oil producer in the world reached a tipping point because the USA announced yesterday record breaking exports of oil to China.

Saudi Arabia decided to go on an all out offensive against Russia and the USA to cripple their oil producing industries and revenues.

Combined with the Corona Virus scare this moved cause the widely followed US DOW stock market indicator to tumble 2,000 points in a single day the largest one day decline since the last stock market crash in 2008.

The US really needs oil to be priced well above $40.00 per barrel to be profitable. Today it was as low as $27.00 per barrel.

Saudi Arabia has the capability and resources to sell oil at this level indefinitely and could eventually force many US producers out of business.
