Masks are critical to stopping coronavirus spread, even at home, CDC says
Masks are "critical" to controlling the spread of coronavirus, and that includes at home sometimes, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday.
A CDC review of what works makes it clear that mask use, physical distancing, avoiding crowds and washing hands all could help control the spread of the virus -- and would allow kids to go back to school and businesses to reopen.
"Consistent and correct use of face masks is a public health strategy critical to reducing respiratory transmission of SARS-CoV-2, particularly in light of estimates that approximately one half of new infections are transmitted by persons who have no symptoms," the CDC summary of guidance reads.
The CDC has gradually been strengthening its recommendations on mask use. "Compelling evidence now supports the benefits of cloth face masks for both source control (to protect others) and, to a lesser extent, protection of the wearer," the CDC's Margaret Honein, Dr. Henry Walke and colleagues wrote.Comment

MIT study: Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and other vaccines may not do as well covering people of Black or Asian genetic ancestry as they do for white people
Vaccines to block COVID-19 that are in development by Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca and others, and that are currently in Phase III clinical trials, may not do as well covering people of Black or Asian genetic ancestry as they do for white people, a study released Wednesday by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology indicated.
The study was published Thursday in the scholarly journal Cell Systems.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: Latest on the Corona Virus
The most effective mask generally in use are N95, US made, and KN95, Chinese made, masks. Both masks filter out and capture 95 percent of tiny 0.3 micron particles in the air (hence the “95” in the names). If you are depending on masks to prevent you from getting COVID10 it is that 5% they can't filter out that is going to kill you.

CDC now says masks protect both the wearers and those around them from Covid-19
(CNN)Wearing a mask can help protect you, not just those around you, from coronavirus transmission, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in new guidance Tuesday. The statement was an update to previous guidance suggesting the main benefit of mask wearing was to help prevent infected people from spreading the virus to others.
Cloth masks act as "source control" to block virus particles exhaled by the wearer and provide "filtration for personal protection" by blocking incoming infectious droplets from others, the CDC said in its new guidance

There is a 95% chance that wearing a N95 mask will prevent you from inhaling COVID-19 airborne particles. Yes, there is a 5% chance a COVID-19 particle might get through.
100% of healthcare professionals wear masks. They often pair this with a face shield and sometimes a secondary mask hour after hour, day after day.
A 5% chance of infection does not invalidate a 95% success rate.Comment
