Medial experts are starting to warn that people with a history of serious allergic reactions shouldn’t get the COVID-19 vaccine. This comes after two NHS workers had allergic reactions to the treatment, including an anaphylactoid reaction, skin rash, breathlessness, and a drop in blood pressure. U.S drugmaker companies Pfizer and BioNTech are both working with investigators to better understand each case and its causes. The science was clearly rushed here.
The U.K is the first Western country to start a mass vaccination program, although it is likely to take many months to roll out. Britain received 800,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine, enough to vaccinate 400,000 people, and will be giving the first shots to people who are either hospitalized or have outpatient appointments scheduled. Canada is also set to receive 249,000 doses this month and will be administering them next week.
Britain’s Medical and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency noted that people should not get the shot if they have a significant allergic reaction to a vaccine, medicine, or food. They shared this information with all other regions. They also warned that vaccinations should be carried out only in facilities that have resuscitation equipment. Resuscitation equipment, wait what?
“The cautionary approach is to say to people who have had severe reactions to other things, ‘just hold.’ There is going to be a deep dive into these two people who got an ‘allergic reaction’ to the vaccine,” said Dr. Ashisha Jha, dean of the school of public health at Brown University.

There has also been an uncertainty in the findings between the two pharmaceutical companies. They released an “interim report,” which contains only some of the data findings. Seeing the actual data from a clinical trial shows a scientist what the actual interpretation of the results are. This concerned medical experts who said the public was getting painted an incomplete picture about the vaccine’s success. Critical information, such as demographic groups, can reveal the severity of any virus.
“Pfizer hasn’t released anything indicating that this 90-percent effective statistic applies to those most frail, like older adults or those in nursing homes who are at highest risk,” said Peter Doshi, associate professor of pharmaceutical health services.
New York lawmakers are considering a mandatory COVID-19 vaccine bill if the state does not seem to develop an immunity to the virus due to a lack of vaccinations. They could even look at mandating young kids “needing” vaccines to go to school The first round is expected to start on Dec. 15.
“I find it ironic that so many of these people who are pro-choice and say, my body my choice, but when it comes a vaccine now it’s my body, but it’s not my choice. The hypocrisy just drips off the wall with some of these people,” said Republican Assemblyman David DiPietro,

The Pfizer vaccine is one of approx six candidates that will be distributed in the USA.

Hopefully one of the other candidates will have a reduced impact on people suffering from allergies. That data is not yet available.

What is known, in Canada, is that a citizen without compelling medical reasons, will not have a choice as to which vaccine will be made available to them.
