Biden directs states to open vaccinations to all adults by May 1
    By Kevin Liptak, CNN
Updated 8:15 PM EST, Thu March 11, 2021

(CNN)President Joe Biden used his first evening address to the nation Thursday to announce he is directing US states to open coronavirus vaccine eligibility to all adults no later than May 1, a step he will say could allow for small Independence Day gatherings on July 4.

Biden told Americans that after a year of pandemic-related pain, "finding light in darkness is a very American thing to do."

Speaking from the White House East Room, he marked a year of virus-related lockdown by decrying how the contagion was handled by the previous administration and mourning the lives that were taken.

I don't know what's going on in other states but in Mississippi I made one phone call and I have an appointment to get the vaccine on March 25th. The girl on the phone asked if I wanted the Moderna or J&J vaccine. They didn't ask for my age or anything like that.

I am in ny and they are playing politics..Walmart can give it and others cant.
They pick and choose who they "allow" to give the vaccine..not by merit..
if you go on the ny state site and ask for more info you get links to
all the great headlines of how cuomo chanpioned the fight but nothing you want to see.
And after filling out your info for an appointment they put you on hold for 30minutes till the next step...so fukkkng stupid.....
my earliest appointment would be may 7th........But i could go to nj or Conn. if i wanted to get it earlier.
such bullshit, cant wait to move out as this sinking ship has no captain...........

In California they recently changed how you make an appointment. You used to have to go to your county health department COVID information page. With Kern County there is map map that shows all the locations. Click on one near you and it displays the contact information for appointments. About a moth ago California started a state website to make appointments. Like the initial Obama ACA website, it is not working properly. Less than half the actual vaccination sites are listed.

I'm getting my vaccine shot at a local pharmacy. I was told that most pharmacies here on the coast have the vaccine and all I needed to do was call and make an appointment. I was very surprised at how easy it was.

Also, it was very easy to get tested for covid. I was given the location of the testing site. They asked what type/color of car I would be in. Told me to pull up in a space marked "covid testing" and someone would come to my car and give me the test. Took about 15 minutes total.

Do they schedule the second shot as soon as you get the first?

Re: Latest on the Corona Virus

Trudeau cool to the idea of vaccine 'passports' for the post-pandemic world

'There are questions of fairness and justice. There could be discrimination,' PM says

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said today he's reluctant to introduce a system of vaccine passports to show proof of immunization because of lingering concerns about inequities — but such a system might be necessary for international travel.

Some experts have suggested that the best way to return life to normal in Canada is to create a smartphone app — not unlike the existing COVID alert app — containing digital proof that an individual has been immunized against COVID-19. Such a "vaccine passport" system could allow for the resumption of mass gatherings like major sporting events and concerts.

It could also be used by some businesses, like restaurants and bars, to restrict entry to those who've gotten a shot.

A paper-based system could also be implemented for the less digitally inclined, like the system in Israel which allows individuals to carry proof that they've received a double dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

More than half of all adults in Israel have received at least one shot of the two-dose regime. The Israeli government has established a "green pass" system that allows people to bypass social distancing and masking requirements if they can show evidence of vaccination.
While he's encouraging everyone to get vaccinated, Trudeau said he's uneasy with the idea of a national program to document vaccination status. He said it could marginalize people who, for whatever reason, can't or won't get a vaccine.

"The idea of certificates of vaccination for domestic use does bring in questions of equity. There are questions of fairness and justice. There could be discrimination," Trudeau said in French.

"There are some people who, because of medical conditions or other reasons, will not be able to get vaccinated. There are others who are not on priority lists who will have to wait much longer before getting vaccinations. These are things that we have to take into account."

Health Minister Patty Hajdu said she shares the prime minister's "concerns" about requiring Canadians to show proof of vaccination before resuming many aspects of ordinary pre-pandemic life.

She said it ultimately would be up to the provinces to implement such a tracking system in their respective jurisdictions.
Some provinces already require that children be vaccinated against certain diseases before attending school — a model that could serve as a template for a vaccine passport program.

Trudeau conceded a vaccine passport program could be implemented for international travel to curb transmission risk.
Before COVID-19 hit, some countries — including many in Africa — required travellers to provide proof of immunization against diseases like yellow fever before entry.

"There are countries in the world where you shouldn't go unless you can prove you've been vaccinated against certain tropical diseases. That's well established," Trudeau said.

As for a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for international travellers, "it's something that countries are actively exploring and we're among those countries," he said in French.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA), an airline trade association that represents 290 airlines worldwide, is in the final stages of developing a digital COVID-19 vaccine passport for travellers.

The digital health document, called the IATA Travel Pass, will allow travellers to certify that they have immunity from COVID-19, either through a past infection or vaccination, and to share that information with airlines and border authorities. The app also could store COVID-19 testing information.

WHO has noted that it's still not known how long immunity lasts from the numerous licensed COVID-19 vaccines and that data are still being collected.

Officials in Austin and Travis County, Texas, can continue to enforce their mask mandates for at least two more weeks after a district judge on Friday refused to grant the state an emergency temporary restraining order, NBC affiliate KXAN reports.

Why it matters: The decision keeps the mandate in place through the spring breaks of many schools in the Austin area.

The virus has exposed a scary underbelly in the USA. I always wondered why the people of Germany went along with Hitler without speaking out until it was too late. Now, I'm not saying that the USA is headed the way of Germany but it has exposed something:

In times of fear too many folks will do what they're told without questioning what's really going on. They'll even give up their freedom.

The government will tell Walmart that they can open for business but the bike shop down the street must remain closed. Why the difference? We don't really know other than someone told us it's for our protection.

When wearing one mask doesn't work, they'll tell you to wear 2. I'm convinced that if Fauci told folks to drink dog piss that many would do it and then complain that everyone isn't doing it.

Our government has now discovered that they have new power over us and that we won't complain too much. And those that do complain will be ridiculed and marginalized. Our government overlords will not give up their new found power any time soon and they'll find new ways to to use this power in ways that we never imagined.

Walmart sells groceries, the bike shop does not. Therefore, the Walmart is an essential service. The bike shop probably had a choice to offer curbside service and sell online.
