Why is it that when you tell someone that a particular piece of information is not for public consumption they go and almost immediately post it! Getting to be a leading cause for NOT helping out...

Re: Boneheads posting information that should not be public!
that IMHO is one big problem here...
some newbies 'think' they are helping others doing this.. but in actuality they are HURTING everyone...
case in point.. entry to old ricohs service made was spread all over the net..
so to combat that issue Ricoh changed the steps.. JUST to keep endusers from bricking their machines..
now the new code is in place and the dumbasses are posting the new one...
frigging morons.
TAKE THAT SHIT TO PM's.. -

Only the OEM and partners care. Yea don't share stuff you are suppose to protect.
Do it like its been done for ages share in secret.
Also do feel we have a right to repair these machines.WhateverComment

Re: Boneheads posting information that should not be public!
On newer Ricoh devices the SP access code can be changed but that opens up a new world of hurt if that is forgotten or lost.
I only ever see Ricoh product (and the rebrands) since that's who I work for. The newer devices are way cleaner running and are even exceeding yield routinely now on many items. I do agree though that too many devices for too long have been filthy pigs.Comment

That's why I only consider sharing such information with trusted techs via PMs.
Endusers are BIG No-No for me with very few exceptions.A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.Comment

Re: Boneheads posting information that should not be public!
when i see a post from a user, that clearly is done by an end user, I ask if they are a tech.. if NO and the issue is clearly "out of their skill range".. i bow out.
IMHO people that profess to be IT techs, and can't fix a simple thing like "IP Conflict" .. i bow out.
and to just pass on things like: enter modes, firmware etc .. I bow out.
like BlackCat says.. " show me you have: the manual, read the manual and have TRIED the procedures for you error/problem " if you can't do that.. i can't help you.Comment

Re: Boneheads posting information that should not be public!
I will offer advice on something to change in service or admin mode, but I will never give out the sequnce to get into service mode..We also enable and change the default CE password on all of our new installs along with recommeding to the customer to change the admin password just due to the ease of googling KM password.
