    remember Jim Croce ?

I remember getting my first baseball mitt and this song was playing right before my Dad and I pulled up to the store. I remember the sales person telling me I could not play baseball with those "Buster Brown- Big Foot" shoes. Remember the red whistle that came with these?

I feel the biggest loss in this regard was Hendrix. He was so innovative as a musician and in the studio. Listen to the difference between each of his three real studio albums, each one was moving further along musically and production. Especially Electric Lady Land. I can imagine him layering Rock and tasteful Jazz, moving further away from 4 minute songs for radio play.

Peter Green was a great guitarist and songwriter.

Here he is with Fleetwood Mac doing The Green Manalishi from 1970

Jimi Hendrix was a huge loss. Band of Gypsies is some of my favorite guitar playing ever.

I know I'm veering off the 70's but my choice for most tragic is Buddy Holly.

Only because he died at age 22 without a chance to even get going.

Even so he left behind a great body of work, imagine him living through the sixties.

Veering a bit more off, but a couple deserved mentions. Les Paul, his work developing a solid body guitar is well known, but he was the first to develop multi track recording. Check out his work with Mary Ford, they owned the charts before Elvis took over. Worth a good google if you find that kind of thing interesting.

Even further back, Django Reinhardt, 2 fingered wizard back when the strings were heavy gauge only.

If your are not familiar, worth a look, and some good listening to history.

I have recordings by both Django Reinhardt and Les Paul. Both are great and influential of course.

If I had to name one guy who started it all it would probably be Lonnie Johnson.

And what about T-bone Walker, Charlie Christian, the list goes on.

Peter played the hell out of the drums on this song.
