    KEY POINTS
First-quarter GDP for 2021 increased at a 6.4% rate, just below the Dow Jones estimate.
It marked the second-fastest pace for growth since the second quarter of 2003 and was exceeded only by the reopening-fueled burst of Q3 in 2020.
Initial jobless claims fell to a fresh pandemic-era low but were higher than expected.

Stocks hit record levels as investors considered a batch of stronger-than-expected earnings results from major companies and a sweeping set of proposals from President Joe Biden aimed at revamping the country's infrastructure and supporting families, children and students.

The S&P 500 rose to a record high of more than 4,200 just after market open. The Dow recovered intraday losses to trade higher by more than 200 points, even as shares of Merck (MRK) declined sharply after missing earnings expectations. The Nasdaq also advanced.

Traders considered Biden's address to a joint session of Congress late Wednesday, during which he declared that "America is back on the move again" after a pandemic that devastated the U.S. economy and killed hundreds of thousands of individuals across the country. The address also served as a forum for him to tout his $2 trillion infrastructure plan and officially unveil a $1.8 trillion proposal aimed at supporting children, students and families, and which will be funded in part through tax increases on wealthy Americans.

Better yet keep low information Canadians out of discussions of US politics. What the US Constitution actually says is to keep politics out of religion. Here it is directly from the 1st Amendment.

Amendment 1 - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof

The Biden Boom! ... Hottest stock market since JFK

The Biden bust that the Trump campaign warned of has morphed into a Biden boom.

The S&P 500 is up 8.6% since the market close on January 20, the final day of the Trump presidency. That means President Joe Biden is on track for the strongest stock market performance during a new president's first 100 days since John F. Kennedy in 1961, according to CFRA Research.

There is a belief out there, that is absolutely incorrect, that markets do better under Republicans. It's completely wrong."
RANDY FREDERICK, VICE PRESIDENT OF TRADING AND DERIVATIVES AT CHARLES SCHWAB

The Biden rally squeaks past the 8.4% jump during the first 100 days of the Obama presidency and is well above the 5% increase in the months following former President Donald Trump's inauguration.

Presidents tend to get more credit — and more blame — than they deserve when it comes to the stock market's performance. Still, the historic gains at the start of the Biden era add to a sense of optimism about America's economic recovery from a once-in-a-century pandemic.

The White House is also moving to unwind some of the Trump tax cuts that juiced the stock market in 2017 and 2018. President Biden has called for raising the corporate tax rate from the current level of 21% to 28%.

Investors should not overreact to tax hike proposals as they will likely get "watered down" along the way. The market can live with modestly higher corporate taxes.

"We probably have room for tax rates to go a little higher"

Try to think beyond superficial numbers and examine the root-cause of the boom to the stock market. We're coming out of a pandemic so naturally the stock market will rise. But it's a sugar rush that will quickly fade away. I thought you were an "investor" that looked deeper into the market? That obviously is a bunch of BS.

Just because he talks about his faith doesn't mean the church should have any say in his policies.

And with US law, e.i. The US Constitution, it is the other way around. What part of "shall make no law" do you lack the intelligence to understand.

Good luck explaining that to a Canadian. Hell, he's a low information voter in his own country. I've already uncovered that in one of these threads. He didn't even know his country had a voter ID law. Neither did the other Canadian.

That's what I'm saying. The church should NOT have any say in government. You are just too entrenched in your need to argue about absolutely EVERYTHING.
Please, go back and read what I posted slowly. You may start to understand what I'm saying.

On the anniversary of President Biden's first 100 days in office, the title of creating, under his watch, the hottest stock market in US history since JFK has a nice ring to it.

One thing is for sure, this did not happen by accident and corporate America is buying into it.
