Re: The Shining City Upon a Hill
US national debt is now $31.41 trillion. More than triple that when you add social security, Medicare & govt pension obligations. Madness.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: The Shining City Upon a Hill
Actually Social Security has been included since President Johnson had it added to the main budget in order to reduce the amount his war on poverty programs would increase the budget deficit. Medicare is actually part of Social Security. If you total the spending on those War on Poverty programs from then until 911, they almost equaled the annual budget deficits. As for government pensions, they should al be replaced with Social Security. And when it comes to Congressional pensions, IMHO they should not get anything if they leave office as a result of losing when running for reelection, lose when attempting to run for a different elected position or become lobbyists.Comment
