Invoking FDR, Harris discusses American economic life in a way Trump never could

FDR engaged in “bold, persistent experimentation” we now have a federal minimum wage, government-mandated overtime pay, and Social Security, “the single biggest governing success in the history of bold, persistent experimentation.”

              What taxpayer funded freebies?

According to the National Taxpayer's Union: The top 1% of earners typically pay much more in taxes than many other Americans. Nationwide, this group contributes 45% of total personal income taxes collected.

Tax Foundation.org: The top 50 percent of all taxpayers paid 97.7 percent of all federal individual income taxes, while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.3 (Latest data 2024)

However, conservative governments always strive to reduce taxes for the ultra wealthy. And someone making $1 million per year makes 95% more than someone making $50000 per year. So your numbers sound fair-ish

Someone who makes 95% more money should pay the lion's share of taxes. It's pretty simple.

Maybe in Communist Canada $50,000 a year is taxable income but not in the USA.

Huh? I was just saying someone making more money should pay more in taxes. What does communism have to do with anything?

BTW, just so you don't make a fool of yourself in the future, here is the tax bracket for someone making $50000
                        22% $47,151 to $100,525
As you can plainly see, someone making $50000 is in the 22% tax bracket.
                        You're welcome.

Most of the government’s federal income tax revenue comes from the nation’s top income earners. In 2021, the top 5% of earners — people with incomes $252,840 and above — collectively paid over $1.4 trillion in income taxes, or about 66% of the national total. If you include the top 10% — everyone who made at least $169,800 — that figure rises to $1.7 trillion, or 76% of the total.

Can you imagine what that total would be if there weren't all the loopholes for the ultra wealthy?
