... in the end, this is a pathetic attempt by mostly far right wing politicians and the thread author to bring attention to themselves without concern for the adults and school age children harmed by guns.

These same politicians have accomplished nothing in their elected jobs so they now think their job is to be controversial and raise money from gullible followers.

Objectively, 2nd amendment support is not a far right ideology, not even a right ideology, or even moderate.
2nd amendment support is a supported by both political spectrums. Labeling someone "far" something, anything is fallacious.

To prove my point, take a look at recent Democratic platform statements.
The 2012 Democratic platform explained:

We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.

Similarly, the 2008 Democratic platform noted:

We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms.

The 2004 Democratic platform stated:

We will protect Americans’ Second Amendment right to own firearms…

To be fair though, I find the shock factor in politicians posting "Look at mah' guns" distasteful. Just say you support the right to own firearms. It's incredibly juvenile, an lacks the professionalism that a polished politician should strive to portray to the people he/she is representing.
