Once again Doge is making government less efficient.
Trump and Musk claimed that 40% of phone calls into Social Security centers were fraud, so Doge built a tool to track it. Turns out the 40% was actually 0.0018% and Doge's tool slowed down processing time significantly.
Only 2 phone calls out of 110,000 were *suspected* fraud and less than 1% of phone calls ended up being flagged.
“No significant fraud has been detected from the flagged cases,” Doge's internal document found.
Doge's tool caused lags that stemmed from three-day holds that were placed on telephone claims in order to run the antifraud claims, a move that “delayed payments and benefits to customers, despite an extremely low risk of fraud,” the document noted.
Doge's anti-fraud tool was set up after weeks of changes to the agency’s telephone policies and it was determined it slowed retirement claim processing by 25% and led to a "degradation of public service.”
