Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
The problem comes back to taxing businesses, as I stated they don't pay the tax but merely pass it on to their customers. The balanced budget amendment, repealing the 16th and instituting a national sales tax will get around that, get around any form of income sheltering and force everyone to have some skin in the game, and force the federal government to live on a budget. The sales tax rate would have to be fixed in the same amendment that allows it and repeals the 16th to prevent it from constantly being increased, but I think most people, and therefore the states they live in would get behind that, so even if the house and senate don't want to move on the idea an Article 5 convention could get it done without them.Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
I like it. I also like limiting the tax rate with an amendment, thus making it much harder to change and forcing the budget to not grow as much as it does. If the federal government is kept under control the GDP will most likely grow, and since tax revenue has generally been a constant percentage of the GDP that might allow for more government, might not. Maybe better would be to force every government agency submit a new budget request starting from zero every year rather than taking the previous year and adding a certain percentage as they do now.
We also need to evaluate every government agency against the constitution to see where in that document they are authorized (most aren't, under a strict reading) and get rid of those that fail that test. Of those few that remain they need to be evaluated as to their performance against their intended goals, and those that fail there given maybe 3 years to shape up or be terminated. Doing this would make it much easier to balance the budget as well.Comment

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
You guys do realize that there's almost zero chance to implement a balanced budget or a flat tax or anything along those lines.
Here's the cold hard truth. Liberalism is winning. And ultimately the USA will be another Britian or Canada. In other words, we will be become mediocre like both of those countries and eventually things will start to fall apart like we're seeing in Canada.
Moreover, the USA is the last superpower and that, too, will vanish once conservatism is defeated. And we will be defeated. It's only after liberalism has failed will we get back to what made this country great. If we're lucky.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Like the State of Mississippi that doesn't pay its fair share receiving Millions of dollars in Federal Aid every month.Comment

Mississippi is a good example of straining out a gnat but swallowing the camel. People worry about some single mothers getting $250 per month, while at the same time voting for corrupt gov's that are stealing millions.

Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
More BS that adds absolutely nothing to the discussion.
When democrats say "fair", what they mean is that business owners are gonna take a bath in order for liberals to give another handout.
Equity = fair. Fair is a subjective word. copier addict and DLP have yet to grasp that concept as to the context of the word "equity" when a democrat uses it.Comment

You and the other destitute amigos are always the ones crying to raise taxes on the rich and all of you take more money from the government than you pay in. Re: $5.00 per gallon gas
Again, you and the other amigos are beggers. You take more out of the system than you pay in. Naturally, you want the rich to pay more because that means you can siphon more off the government tit.
Unlike you beggers, I pay more in than I take out. I'm the guy that pays for your government handouts.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment
