Re: Concern about the future of printing industry
I think even ~15 years ago the prognosis was that things are going downhill with our industry "big time" (paperless workflows.....). The reality begged to differ but I agree that in more recent years and especially during covid there's an decrease in print volume and servicecalls we probably all can see and feel in our pockets. I don't expect the industry to die soonish but unless our employers won't find/discover new fields of businesses, we'll probably will end up in an industrial downsizing. -
Re: Concern about the future of printing industry
When I started in the business in 1994, I was told my job would not last long because everyone would go "paperless" in a few years. My workload has not slowed down, even during the Covid hysteria.
As long as there are government offices, there will be tons of paperwork, and that is my job security.Comment

Re: Concern about the future of printing industry
I remember when the push first started to cut down on paper usage, especially in hospitals. Patient records were all scanned to digital. All new reports went straight to digital and not printed. Patient record jackets were removed from nurses stations and replaced with 1 or 2 computer terminals. The problem was that they got a bit ahead of themselves. None of the doctors, nurses etc had touch screen pads,m the hospitals considered them an unnecessary expense. If a doctor or other service provider was making rounds he/she would use one of the computers to print the current information on each patient first to carry as rounds were made. When they were through with those printouts, they went into the shredding bin. Repeat multiple time a day and they ended up using more not less paper.Comment
