I have gotten an IT tech fired when they thought that a lowly copier tech. I was called out on a problem that a department was having with some of their computers not being able to print. It took me all of maybe 5 minutes to see that their DHCP service/server was down because all the one that were working were normally left on overnight while those that had to be turned on that morning were having problems. He had been there at least 5 hours trying to track down why people throughout the compound were having trouble accessing the internet. I called the receptionist and asked her to have him call me so I could tell him what I had found. He told her to tell me that he was too busy to talk to me. She let me know his answer then apparently called the head west coast IT person in Spokane because before I could get all my equipment together, he called me to ask what I had found. He then logged in remotely to the server and restarted the service. He then called the receptionist and had her make an announcement for all those having problems to restart their computers.
