There are two main causes of inflation: demand-pull and cost-push. Both are responsible for a general rise in prices in an economy, but each works differently to put pressure on prices. Demand-pull conditions occur when demand from consumers pulls prices up, while cost-push occurs when supply costs force prices higher.

Some sources cite a third cause of inflation: expansion of the money supply. However, the Federal Reserve explains that the relationship of money supply to inflation has decreased over time, and is not a separate cause of its own.

What Are the Major Causes of Inflation?

You need to take a better course in economics. The normal terms used are Supply and Demand to determine pricing. Cost has very little to do with worldwide pricing. It may slightly effect a small business's ability to stay in business in the form of cost of goods sold. If it is too high it becomes hard to stay in business, especially when expenses are rising rapid.

When President Biden shutdown a huge portion of the US domestic petroleum production, that caused an immediate increase in the demand on the rest of the world production. Worldwide demand remained the same, domestic US supply went down reducing the total world supply. The world price of fuel started to increase as a direct result of Biden's action. As fuel prices went up, the cost for fuel to every industry dependent of petroleum went. They in turn had to either raise their prices, layoff employees to cut costs or go out of business. Result, run away inflation.
