    Used copier shortage

For a while it was increasingly harder to find low meter Kyocera copiers. I assume it was this way for most major brands. My sales rep called me up last week and made me an offer on a bunch of 3552's and he said that they're getting in more machines but he couldn't guarantee that the shortage was over.

I'd be interested in hearing from others on copier availibility.

    My machines were delivered yesterday:

We can cover that demand from our own pool of leasing/rental returners but I'm getting fairly more requests from other dealers if I wanna sale some units.
Due to the current and always changing availability situation I tend to keep everything "okay stuff" I have and only sale very high meter units for export.
I also find it important to keep some parts donating machines to cut some costs within service contracts.

I would say that in the current economic downturn that many businesses are looking for low meter used equipment instead of a major outlay for new.

The other problem is that new equipment is still hard to come by, meaning it takes longer to get the used equipment back into inventory.

Yeah wo also do this for many years - manufacturers are not so happy with the revenues they do with us regarding parts sales but why would I order something expensive (like an operation panel for example) when I can extract it from a returner that isn't interesting enough for a second life in the field. We also re-install the faulty parts we get back from the customers machine to keep the donators complete, so they are still interesting for "export" buyers

The only downside is that you must have enough storage space, luckily this isn't an issue for us.

The wholesaler that I deal with is one of the largest, if not the largest in the country. A few short months ago inventory was critically low. I was kinda shocked at the scarcity of low meter machines. And high meter machine inventory was much lower than normal. My sales rep said that customers were hanging onto their lease machines longer than normal due to the shortage of new machines. So, I started buying machines as soon as I saw them come in but I was now paying twice as much.

My sales rep called me up the other day and said that he had gotten in a bunch of low meter Kyocera machines and the price was much closer to normal. I'm hoping that this is permanent.

We used to get a lot of next to new off lease Kyocera's as well, color table tops and printers especially, but have seen now the counts being higher now. We do have a local wholesaler that has been keeping us supplied with some nice low metered machines; but, those table tops and printers are still hard to come by. We have seen the shift from clients wanting new machines to now looking for those lightly used machines instead.

Yeah who knows, the percentage of the low meter machines within the pool of our returners is genereally rising since the output volume is going backwards in many businesses.
I'd guess ~25% of the returners comes back with a total counter under 100k and probably ~50% with less than 200k pages (200k is usually the pain threshold for refurb purposes- this is sort of good and sad at the same time
