Imagine, New York closes Jewish schools because they fail to meet New York public schools' level of scholarship. New York’s reading rates are "dismal", 30% are worse than the national average with only half reading at grade level (black and hispanic students averaging 37.5.%). Why aren't they stripping those schools? It's so bad in fact, Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Department of Education (DOE) launched the biggest overhaul to reading instruction in the public school system’s history. How successful was it? Reading scores dropped after first year of new literacy curriculum.
