I was hoping that you'd give examples out of your own mouth rather that requiring me to watch a 30-minute video. I skimmed the video. Carville talked about different areas of Lousiana and the high volume of churches in those areas. I grew up in that area and don't even believe in God.

Mike Johnson sounds like a typical Christian.

Edit: Carville says that Mike Johnson, via religion, wants to get into every area of our lives. How is that different from liberals wanting to control everything I do, including that I use correct pronouns and what they did during Covid, to name a couple?

Do you think there should be a clear seperation of religion and politics in the US Federal gov't?

A large % of American citizens are not active Christians, a nation of immigrants.

I think most Americans believe in Christian values but do not want the laws of the land to be crafted in a way that favors devout Christians.

Mike Johnson, the Republican House leader is clearly a devout Christian. He has been recorded many times saying that he favors a theocracy over a democracy.

By year's end, 25% of US citizens will be Latinos.

Separation of religion means that there shall be no law favoring one religion over another. Personally, I don't want religion in my politics. I believe religion was founded because it attempted to explain what science could not back in the day. We're well beyond that and should go with science over religion, IMHO. That's not to say that all religion is bad. Liberty under law was always rooted in biblical principle.

I'm well aware that seperation of religion isn't in the constitution. It was in a paper written by Thomas Jefferson. And for the record, Amendment 1 says exactly what I said - There shall be no law favoring one religion - "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

Re: Biden: Corruption a Family Business

                I really wasn't planning on getting into a debate but here's a pretty good article on Separation of Religion;

Establishment Clause (Separation of Church and State)

Establishment clause of First Amendment often interpreted to require separation of church and state

however, challenges arose to existing laws and practices, and eventually, the Supreme Court was called upon to determine the meaning of the establishment clause.

Though not explicitly stated in the First Amendment, the clause is often interpreted to mean that the Constitution requires the separation of church and state.

Jefferson had earlier witnessed the turmoil of the American colonists as they struggled to combine governance with religious expression. Some colonies experimented with religious freedom while others strongly supported an established church.

This is a quote from Thomas Jefferson. It specifically states there should be a wall between church and state.

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between Man & his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, & not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof," thus building a wall of separation between Church & State. Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties."[1]

So, if you are looking for the intention of the amendment, there it is.

Mike Johnson Porn 'Monitoring' App Accused of Being Used to Jail People

The "accountability software" app being promoted by House Speaker Mike Johnson has been used by law-enforcement agencies across the country to imprison those on parole, court documents show.

Covenant Eyes has been cited in at least two judge orders reviewed by Newsweek that detail how probation offices in Ohio and Washington have required parolees to download the app as part of the conditions of their release. The software, which is designed to promote internet accountability, monitors the access of explicit materials on a device and sends that information directly to the phone of a chosen ally.

Johnson, the Louisiana Republican who was elected to the gavel less than two weeks ago, has previously spoken out about his use of the subscription-based service, saying last year that he and his then 17-year-old son were accountability partners on the app.

While Johnson's use of Covenant Eyes has raised privacy concerns about how the Speaker's security, and in turn national security, could be compromised by a third-party software that is allowed full access to his devices, similar fears have also been raised about the use of the app by law enforcement.

Re: Biden: Corruption a Family Business

House Speaker Mike Johnson has a covenant marriage. What does that mean?

Newly elected speaker of the House and Shreveport native Rep. Mike Johnson and his wife Kelly Johnson joined in a covenant marriage in 1999.
But what is a covenant marriage?
"If you're having trouble in your marriage, and you're going down the road of divorce, now you have to go seek counseling," said Mary Winchell, attorney at Winchell Law Firm, LLC.
Louisiana is one of three states that recognizes covenant marriages passing the first law in 1997. Shortly after, Arkansas and Arizona followed suit.
According to the Louisiana Department of Health, covenant marriage is when couples choose to enter a marriage in which they agree to be bound by two significant provisions on obtaining a divorce.

                      Covenant marriage stipulations:

                      • The couple must agree to seek marital counseling if problems develop during their marriage.
                      • A couple can seek divorce or legal separation if there is adultery, physical or sexual abuse to the spouse or children, habitual use of alcohol or drugs and commission of a felony.

When entering a covenant marriage couples must sign a declaration of intent.
This declaration provides that a husband and wife live together forever, both parties have disclosed everything that could adversely affect the marriage, the parties have received premarital counseling, and the couple will receive counseling if difficulties arise.
Winchell said, "you still have to deal with all the same issues that you would have to deal with in a regular divorce."

However, a key component to covenant marriages is the time in which it takes to get legally separated or divorced. Winchell said, "you are really just prolonging the issue."
To obtain a legal separation a couple must live separate and apart for two years.
For spouses to get a divorce they have to live separate and apart for two years, or the spouses are legally separated and have lived apart since the legal separation for one year and six months if there is a minor child of the marriage; one year if the separation was granted for abuse of a child or spouse.

Re: Biden: Corruption a Family Business

When a liberal attacks a religious person, it's always a Christian. And they're usually white. You'll never hear them attack a Muslim. I could never understand that. Islam goes against every liberal ideal.

Muslims opposed to LGBTQ curricula for their kids aren’t bigots

We are witnessing a unique and welcome phenomenon: Muslims in the West are at the forefront of a social movement that transcends any one faith or ethnicity. For those following the news, protests led by parents have erupted across the United States and Canada against school boards that wish to teach schoolchildren content about the acceptability of LGBTQ lifestyles.

While parents of all ethnicities and religions are involved, Muslim parents have been playing a central role in all of these cases, both as organisers and protesters, and their highly visible presence is creating waves on social media.

t is understandable for parents to be concerned. In Maryland, for example, a school district has approved books that discuss homosexuality and transgenderism as normal realities for children as young as three years old. This is state-sponsored ideological indoctrination of toddlers who can barely form complete sentences, much less think critically.
Parents have a God-given duty and legal right to provide moral instruction and guidance to their children. This includes the right of parents and their children to reject ideologies that contravene their beliefs.
Yet, supposedly secular institutions like public schools are now dictating that students must accept and affirm LGBTQ ideology, at times with the threat that if they refuse to do so, they “do not belong” in their country, as one teacher in Edmonton, Canada, recently said to a Muslim student.
As Muslims, we refuse to be coerced into believing something our faith categorically condemns. This is not a political stance. It is a moral principle.

A recent statement I helped draft, titled “Navigating Differences: Clarifying Sexual and Gender Ethics in Islam”, has been signed and endorsed by more than 300 Islamic scholars and preachers across North America. In this document, we explicitly and clearly lay out the non-negotiable, normative Islamic position on sexuality and gender ethics.
We believe this statement will allow Muslim parents, educators, students and professionals to establish their right to hold their religious views without fear of legal reprisal. All too often, those who wish to live in accordance with mainstream, family-based morality are accused of being bigoted and “homophobic” if they refuse to endorse LGBTQ events. Many suffer social repercussions for holding such beliefs.

Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.

What brilliant doesn't understand is that a lot of liberals don't agree with all organised religion. Be it Muslim, Christian or what have you. It's when "my god is better than your god" becomes the issue that things go seriously wrong.

Politico columnist Jonathan Martin hammered President Biden's re-election strategy on Monday and argued that reportedly calling former Obama adviser David Axelrod a "p----" in private was not going to win him votes.
Martin also criticized Biden's decision to debate poll results with the White House press corps, adding that it wouldn't make his victory in 2024 any likelier.

"Calling David Axelrod ‘a p----,’ as a person who has heard Biden use the word says he does in private, is not a strategy to win 270 electoral votes. And repeating a PG version of the same animus in public while litigating polling with the White House press corps also won’t make Biden’s re-election any likelier," Martin wrote in Politico.
