So, all anyone has is deflection? Come on! Why is it okay for the most wealthy to avoid their taxes? There must be a legitimate reason. It can't just be that you think if you help them avoid taxes they might throw some your way. Can it? Because that will never happen. They didn't get their wealth by spreading it around.

The top 10% of wage earners in this country (neither know nor care about other countries) pay almost 50% of the income tax revenue. How is this not paying their fair share? Do they use 47.3% of the government services? Conversely, the bottom 50% of wage earners pay less than 12% of the income tax revenue and receive more than that in benefits (almost 50% of the workers in this country pay no taxes at all, many of these are also recipients of welfare in some of its many forms).

The problem with conservatives is they believe everyone is like them.
Just because liberals believe the wealthy should pay their taxes, doesn't mean they want it for themselves. Countries don't run on thoughts and prayers, and roads and bridges don't fix themselves. So, if the group of people with most of the money are hoarding it or sending it off shore, the bridges and roads still need to be fixed. So, that money has to be borrowed, causing out of control national debt.

This is why a national sales tax, limited by a constitutional amendment to prevent ever increasing rates, makes more sense than an income tax, plus it would incentivize saving or being more frugal. Buy a pack of gum for $1, pay 10%. Buy a Gulfstream for $50 million, pay 10%.

Any tax system that punishes success and rewards failure (through wealth transfer from the wealthy to the poor) is inherently unfair to both. Unfair to the wealthy because they are forced to pay for things they don't get and unfair to the poor because it trains them that the government is their sugar daddy and will take care of them.
