AI promotion can be the end of humanity. Extremely more dangerous than COVID and close to a nuclear war.
A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

People (IMHO) don't fully understand the ramifications of AI.
          It worries me no end.

AI isn't some being capable of actual thought. The reality is it's a plagiarism machine.

ChatGPT takes the top 10 results from Google then rewords them to fit the conversation.
So it works like many humans nowadays

I agree that AI is not a direct threat (for now) - the threat lies in the human decisions about what to do with it.

I'm sure I read somewhere on their site that it doesn't use seach engines but was unable to find, so I asked it.

                  does chatgpt use google

No, as an AI language model developed by OpenAI, ChatGPT does not use Google or rely on any specific search engine. It is trained on a diverse range of text data from the internet, books, and other sources to generate responses based on patterns and information it has learned during training. It does not have direct access to the internet or any search engine while generating responses.

I don't think any of us truly understand AI but I've read what some of the smartest people in the world had to say and they say it's a threat. I'll have to go with that. For now.
