Re: Republicans want to crash the economy

I have a serious question for those that want to raise the debt ceiling again. If, whenever this "crisis" approaches, we "have to raise the ceiling to prevent <some sort of catastrophe>" why even have a law setting the ceiling in the first place? If it is never applied it should be repealed.

Better still would be to reduce the federal government back to that which the constitution allows. Compare every federal agency to the constitution, any that don't have justification in the constitution should be immediately disbanded. Those very few that survive should then be analyzed to see if they meet the intended goals for that agency, those that fail this test should, first, have the management replaced and if that doesn't fix the problem then disband the agency. The USPS is one of the few that are authorized in the constitution and, if it were a private company, would have been forced into bankruptcy years ago, indicating (again) that governments are good at very little, violence being the exception.

... what Gov't agency would you cut first? NASA, the Center for Disease Control, the Dept of Homeland Security or the Environmental Protection Agency?

The Constitution was written over 200 years ago. It is not a divine document and could not possibly forsee the advances in modern society.

Not only did our founding fathers understand that the USA would undergo massive change in the future that they couldn't possibly understand, they made provisions for changing the constitution. You really shouldn't talk about things that you know little about. No offense.

They also put in place not one but two way to modify the constitution. If those agencies are truly needed at a government level then add them and their responsibilities to the constitution, else get rid of the dead weight. BTW, contrary to popular belief, the CDC is NOT a government agency.

As for the rest of your list, DHS is an abject failure as evidenced by the constant failures at the agencies that make it up, including but not limited to, TSA, CBP, and currently any federal law enforcement agency that would prefer to monitor concerned parents than groups destroying public and private property in the name of "social justice". NASA is currently obsolete as they have zero capability for getting people and things into orbit, that is being handled by private companies, as it should be. The EPA needs to be at least reeled WAY in, when they start trying to control what are effectively seasonal puddles on private property they are over-reaching what ANY government agency, at any level, has any authority doing. Before you decide that I've made any of this up, do some research.

... so how many 10,000s of people would you throw out of work first?

As oilfield and pipeline workers were told by several members of the current administration when their jobs were shut down, they can learn to code (or some other job that is considered socially acceptable).

... so under your plan there will be nobody at the Food and Drug Administration making sure Americans are safe from bad products.

Since every commercial that starts with "if you or a loved one was harmed or kill by (enter drug here)" is about a drug that was declared safe by the FDA I really can't see that they are meeting their intended purpose. They are also almost 1/3 funded by pharmaceutical companies rather than wholly by the federal government (not including perks given to the bureaucrats that should be may not be reported).

... so under your plan there would be no air traffic controllers anymore to prevent airplanes from crashing into each other at airports or in the sky.

If you were to recommend private companies take over this task, who would oversee them to meet established public safety standards?

The last Amendment , Amendment 27, was ratified just 31 years ago.
Amendment 27 - Limiting Congressional Pay Increases. Ratified 5/7/1992.
No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives,
shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.

No matter what answer you are given it will never be the one you want, which is government should run everything. You figure it out since you are obviously the most intelligent person you know.

Don't hold me to this but I believe there are over 9-million federal employees.

If you ask a liberal every last one is sacred and must be preserved. That's called worshiping at the alter of Big Government, if you ask me.

... nobody said the gov't should run everything. Some public sector industries could be privatized like off shore wind farms but these mega projects could never get started without gov't assistance.

That assistance will not be possible if the debt limit is not increased.

The democrats in Congress only need five financially responsible Republicans to make this self inflicted problem go away. Five Republicans who could benefit their districts big time with potential large Federal gov't infastructure projects available under President Biden's Infrastructure Act that was passed into law.
