Hundreds of books pulled from Florida school libraries — including novels by Kurt Vonnegut, John Green and Toni Morrison

          By Kerry Breen

Updated on: November 13, 2024 / 12:52 PM EST / CBS News A 35-page list compiled by the Florida Department of Education outlines hundreds of books banned across the state's 73 school districts during the 2023-2024 academic year.

The report lists the titles and authors of the books, and what grade levels the book was removed from, but does not detail why a book was discontinued. Under HB 1069, a 2023 law that bans Florida schools from having books that depict or describe "sexual conduct" or "is inappropriate for the grade level and age group for which the material is used," library books can be removed in response to an objection raised by the parent of a student or a resident of the county where the district is located. Once a complaint is made, the books must be reviewed before they can be returned to the shelves or permanently removed.

Still, Florida overall earns high scores compared to other states in the U.S. In May 2024, U.S. News & World Report announced that Florida ranked #1 in the nation for education. The publication’s Best State ranking is based on a combination of strong performances in higher education and K–12 metrics.

“Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, Florida again ranks number one in education,” said Commissioner of Education Manny Diaz, Jr. “By focusing on core academic subjects and excellence in the classroom, Florida stands ahead of the rest.”

Look, no one should take the OP seriously. I think everyone understands that.

                        Here you go.

Texas gained more new people than any other state between July 2023 and July 2024, according to Census data.

Texas’s population jumped by 562,941 people. Florida saw the second highest numeric growth with 467,347 new people and California the third with 232,570.

Washington, D.C., and Florida both topped Texas percentage growth, with D.C.’s population increasing by 2.2% and Florida’s increasing by 2%. Texas saw a 1.8% increase in its population.
Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.

Myrtle Beach, SC/Wilmington, NC, Ocala, FL, Houston, TX, Greenville-Spartanburg, SC, Charlotte, NC, Raleigh, NC, Phoenix, NC, Knoxville, TN, Jacksonville, FL, and Asheville, NC.

More leaving every month do to insurance crisis
