    I love Ricoh, but...

.. why the heck they insist on calling their machines by the codename instead of the actual model?

I had to check the parts for an Aficio 2060 and the manual mentioned different parts for the C1 and the C2 variant - and I thought "Now I'm fucked!". I had to access Tessa and check the cross-reference to see what machine I was looking for.

This might not sound like much, but for someone used to work with Konica machines where a 7075 was a 7075 and a 7065 was a 7065, this really messes with my noodle!

There, I feel better now! You can resume with your lives.

The model names and numbers vary depending on the brand you sell under, the design names are universal.
But yer it can be confusing, especially that one as it's a combined SM and parts catalog with older and newer models of the same range.

Its always kinda pissed me off too, since Ricoh can't seem to make up their mind which name to use, as I've seen the same document refer to a finisher as both a SR790 and a B701 and a whatever the hell the codeword is for it.

Personally I prefer the product number, since that's what the parts use as well. When you put a drum into a B234 machine you know its a B2349510 and you don't have to translate Ricoh, Lanier, Savin, and Gestetner model numbers or code names..

Not that its a perfect solution either considering how many machines the A230 drum fits, but its still one less translation.

I agree, using the engine number for machines can be easier but gets horrendously complicated on peripherals.

The product names (Russian, Adonis, Martini etc) have been spoon fed to us since I started in my current job and it's what I've gotten used to. With regard to peripherals, we use their model number, i.e. SR790 etc to identify them. A lot of dealers use the machine model numbers and do get a tad confused when we start spouting off Model-J, Bellini etc.

I guess it's just what you're used to, but I think learning the design name and possibly engine numbers is a good idea just so we're all speaking the same language!

I might be able to tell you what product code that is, if only I knew which one of the five different websites to go to that I had to sign up for at Ricoh.

          (just being sarcastic)
I tried to make the usernames and passwords the same for any I could at least, I know their attempting to change that though.(in a sort of partially/half-@ssed kind of way)

I'm also not too fond of their skillsoft learning software. I'd be happy with a pdf or odf version of the course and just an online test. (if your familiar with the "blended learning") That's a lot of bloat to read through a few pages of text.

I'm just being a whiner tonight.

            Well Whined

For a company who wants to get into the corporate IT business so badly, we have a pretty disjointed system ourselves. (and you didn't even mention Oracle)
