    Snow Day

It's so rare for Copier Guy to get a day off because of weather. Much more common to be asked to risk life & limb to deal with an urgent "staple jam" , 20 miles from home, in 6 inches of snow. What can you say ? The boss had a heart today. Thanks, boss.830-snowz.highlight.prod_affiliate.7.jpg

My boss is really good about us not driving if roads are bad its the customers that dont seem to care
A couple years ago get a call from a garbage pickup service about 60 miles away when I called customer to ask if they could wait till next day they said no way had to be fixed today
Took me almost 3 hours to get on site whole time I am working on machine customers phone is ringing with customers wanting to know when the could expect to have trash picked up They were telling customers because of the weather cant have our trucks on the road or our drivers could not make it in today because of road conditions and we will have to reschedule your pick up

I once got called,in the snow to a call 8 miles away in 6 inches of snow. It was a car dealer. The only tech in my company to get a call. When I get there, the Plow King is there, cleaning his lot. I was told to hit the bricks. Now I make sure to not burn through my sick days, for days such as this.

Usually here in Calgary, weather is rarely a problem during the winter. That said, this winter has been worse than most regarding snow. Not near as much as you poor sobs on the east side of the continent...

Most of the time we will cover all service calls during crap weather...part of the game. But if there was a recent snow storm, some calls are delayed to the next day. Workers Comp would have a field day with our managers if we sent someone on a call during what would be considered poor winter driving conditions, especially if police recommend essential travel only and that person got into an accident as a result. Personally, I will refuse outright if I judge the road conditions poor...and I have no fear, got a great car and decent set of snow boots for this kind of crap...but even then, some road conditions like black ice can really ruin a trip.

Places I've worked at around here, we never had a snow day. Most snow I remember doing calls in was 12" or so. Was a fun day......
