The wife got a new HTC Eris last week and the little I've got to play with, it's pretty cool. Don't like having to type on this screen, but it's more accurate than I thought it would be. Just being on 3g is cool.

I've heard some good things about Android, but haven't gotten to play with it. I did play with the I-Phone and it is a solid phone. I have the Palm Pre and I love it. I like it because I don't have to close out from one application I'm running to do another, like you have to with I-phone. So I can play my mp3's for example in my car and simultaneously be displaying the GPS at the same time. Or send email, surf the web, send a text message and play a game at the same time. The battery doesn't last long and I wish it would run MS Windows Mobile, but I still love it. It's smaller than the I-phone and has a qwerty pad as well. I-phone does have more applications available, but Palm has been adding a lot of them to the list. Tell me more about the capabilities of the android phone.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!". -
Hmmmm...that does appear to be a cool phone. I want to replace the POS blackberry brick I got from work....gotta talk the office into expensing one for me...heh"Many years ago I chased a woman for almost two years, only to discover that her tastes were exactly like mine: we both were crazy about girls."

Well so far, everything you've said your wife's android phone can do, I can do with my Pre. I can zoom with the "pinch" of 2 fingers, each app opens in a window that palm calls "cards" and you just slide your finger left or right to navigate between programs. It is very responsive, so I have to be careful not to touch in the wrong place. Other than that, I love it. I've never had so much fun with a phone before. I have Sprint as a service provider and I am content with the service. I can drive almost anywhere I normally go and get good signal (something I couldn't do when I had AT&T). Sprint is about to unveil their 4G service, if they haven't done so already. Android is supposed to be better than Palm, but I've yet to hear what is so different. Application designers need to design their phones to work with more than one type of OS and/or there needs to be cooperation between phone manufacturers in making a conversion program that will let you run programs that operate on different OS.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

I have a Droid...(motorola) and It DOES support multi touch.
for whatever reason the default web browser does not use it, it uses a double tap for zoom, but one of the first free apps I downloaded was the DOLPHIN browser...with does pinch and stretch zooming etc.
I also have a program running called Swype..which is a prety slick interface for the on screen keyboard that allows you to just drag your finger from letter to letter on the screen to form words instead of pecking at the keyboard.. (my name makes a star!)
it's a bit hard to desrcibe but within minutes of useing it...it becomes very intuitive.
the LED flashlight built into the 5mcamera comes in handy..and the video it shoots is dvd quality (well it would be if i could get my hands to stop shaking)
I've never been so happy with a phone before.
(oh an roms!....roms! lol I have emulators for segegenesis, nintentdo ets and gameboy loaded up which allow me to play any of the old school games.)Comment

I agree! Even after I got my BB Curve... after having a Nokia 5160 or whatever the hell it was for almost 4 yrs. I knew the BB was something different and something I could use, but I also new that something was missing. Maybe, for me, it's the 3g coverage that I really am so geeked over. But even after playing with a BB Storm 2 and a the HTC hero, I would choose the Hero. After playing with my wife's Eris, i would choose the Eris any day over the Storm2.
Oh man! You made me perform a Google search with this quote! Haven't downloaded any yet, but I'm still reading up on it. Very Interesting!!sigpic
