    Re: female techs?

We hired on a female tech about 6 months ago - What I'm hearing from our customers is that she's really strong on people skills. I don't want that to say that and sound like I'm knocking her technical ability, because I haven't been behind her on many calls so I can't say too much about her work. The fact that I'm not following her around like some of the guys we got says enough in my book though.

      Re: female techs?

I've only ever worked with 3 Female Tech's over the years, 1st 1 was an Electronics Tech in her 50's & really good at what she did. Never afraid to muck in with the guys & when the mood took her she could out swear any guy i've ever known. The other 2 were Trainees I was teaching in a Training Centre & they were complete opposites, 1 was really butch and thought she knew it all. There was no way any of us could teach her anything, totally useless with tools and she really objected to a man trying to tell her how things were supposed to be done, lasted about a month before we all gave up trying & she was advised to find a different career. The other girl was small, petite & pretty as a picture but boy did she have a thirst for knowledge. This 1 would be there before any of the boys with her sleeves rolled up & ready to get into a machine, if i was going out to do a service call she would be there raring to go. She was a pleasure to teach, this 1 stayed the full course & we ended up getting her a job with a local copier firm where she did really well. Last I heard she was working as a Troubleshooter for 1 of the manufacturers.

I had several female printer technicians, but now that I have merged over to the copier industry, I have all guys.

Gotta be fair, reading this thread has been really refreshing. Nice to know there are a lot of other guys out there that think the same as I do, Women can be just as good at this job as guys. My eldest daughter is Training to be an Industrial Electrical / Electronics Tech in a big Steel mill, when she started there were a lot of comments from the guys about her being too small / petite to do that sort of work & she'd be better off working in an office, but now it's all changed. She proved she can do the job & does'nt mind getting dirty, breaking a nail or getting her hair messed up.

            Re: female techs?

My female techs were really good. When I was dispatching, I recall running into some prejudices a few times. Some customers had a problem accepting the fact that a woman might actually be able to handle a job like that. It's crazy how people still have such closed minds. Women can rock the industry as good as a man can. It's not about gender, it's about work ethic and smarts.

Sorry to hear that... I work for them too. Started with Lanier - they knew how to run a company - and it's been downhill ever since. Did you hire on with RBS or were you with one of the buy-outs?
