I have just found out that a local rival company is using my posts, to find out which customers we are having technical problems with, and then approaching them to try and pinch the business, probably saying we don't know what we are doing. I thought this website was for likeminded people who are trying to help each other out and support each other, in an industry which can be hard enough at times, without a/holes such as these being sneaky and under handed. I feel like giving out there id's but I'm not a complete t***t like they are.

Whoa, talk about commercial espionage!!! That really sucks. You post enough info that they are able to tell who your customer is? You may have to go incognito and change your online presence -
I don't post any customer info but we are a small community, where every one knows each other, and a copule of the rival company are ex employees, I will think about the ingognito bit, as I want to continue to contribute to the sitewhich has helped me in the past, and indeed I know I have helped others.Comment

I think you might be a little paranoid. I mean, how would someone be able to determine a specific customer unless you were actually including specific information about your customers in your posts? If you're worried about it, change your login name to something that doesn't refer to your actual name in any way. Do you really think I'm the black, jerry curl having hitman from Pulp Fiction? But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

Even worse, that it is coming from others within your known circle. Trying to get a business edge up on your competitors is one thing , but I would have to agree with you that if what you say is truly their method, than it is kinda low end to say the least and would be really f***ing annoying to boot.Comment

They know OK, like I say its a small community, and one of their techs, has told one of ours thats what they do. Maybe I should go igognito, and look at their posts and give them duff information, but that would be stooping down to their level, and i wont do thatComment

Yeah you're right actually, its more annoying that anything, I'm not overly worried about it, even though it sounds like I am, its just frustrating to think that so called fellow techs would do it. If thats the only way they can get work, then its them thats got the problemComment

Why don't you start a thread about how you are being sexually harassed by the other techs in your town, print it out and give copies to the customers they are trying to steal. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment

Man, that sucks...
Cannot say if that has happened to me here...but then, I do a heck of a lot of answering, very little in the line of questions.
I would have to say that you pack up that profile and refrain from providing specific personal information. Answer questions you can with your current profile, ask questions with the other profile I suppose...though that is frowned upon by the site owner, two or more profiles I mean....not much you can do about it outside of this I think...
Perhaps ask questions via private message?
I get a few of those, but I often try to steer the people asking to ask in the forum, so to gain the benefit of more than one opinion on some fix or another, and of course, providing a source for others to see the responses in general searching. But if you know who the knowledgeable people are in the product you deal with, and explain to them the help you seek and why private, they may help you out."Many years ago I chased a woman for almost two years, only to discover that her tastes were exactly like mine: we both were crazy about girls."

Man I had similar b/s done to me a quiet a few years ago.
Some dip shit didn't like my demeanor so he/they went around the internet subscribing me to multiple porn sites.
I played his/their game better and posted back to the same web sites that I didn't mind pornography just that I would
like to choose my own time and place and could you please stop subscribing me to multiple porn sites. Seems their publicity stunt backfired on them in the end.
I had people inform me about the above from NewZealand, another totally different country.
Wow the lengths people will go to , just to make a point.Inauguration to the "AI cancel-culture" fraternity 1997...

The best thing to do is to simply ignore them and continue with what you are doing, BUT in certain way that will make them realize they are fools. Turn that problem into an opportunity to work harder & contribute even the more to this site. the more u do the more they will recognize your knowledge potential and recommend your very customers back to you, unknowingly they are advertising for you. Do not compete with them, simply work in the creative plane. ' NEVER QUIT, QUITTERS NEVER WIN AND WINNERS NEVER QUIT'Comment
