I remember this one time getting pulled over by the sheriff as a younger tech. I probably was speeding a little, but the way this guy was acting you would have thought I spit on his Grandmother. I was driving a company car with the "How's my driving?" sticker on the back. The cop starting asking all kinds of questions like what's my supervisor's name, was I driving to a customer's office, etc. Then he lets me go without giving me a ticket. I thought this odd since the guy acted like a total prick from the get go. So later that day I head back into the shop and talk to my boss. Apparently the cop had called him and told him stuff like I blew his doors off on the freeway. An impossibility since I was driving a Toyota Tercel at the time and he was driving a 5.0 Mustang cop car. My boss told me how the guy ranted and raved in an apparent effort to get me fired. I also found out by my boss that the only reason I didn't get a ticket is because the cop had just come from court and left his ticket book at the station. Fortunately for me my boss at that time was a really cool guy and thought it was funny more than anything else. Some good-natured ribbing was the only punishment I got. LOL. The funny thing (or maybe sad thing) is that this is probably one of the best memories I have from my field tech days.
Any memorable brushes with the law while on the job?

Was doing 130-140 Km/h on a back road between towns about 10 years ago. Its a road I knew well and travelled on it frequently, so I knew where the cops usually hid and the condition of the road, so I had no problems with the car or speed.
This particular day, an un-marked highway patrol car comes towards me, and turns around after me. I knew I was in alot of trouble and would probably lose my licence. He pulled me over and came up beside the car....... took off his sunglasses and said.... 'Oh, G'day Wazza'. I recognised him straight away.... he was one of my workmates husbands. He went through the usual babble of how fast I was going, but I mentioned I was on my way to the police station to service the copier (which I wasn't, but anyway....), so he let me off, no questions asked. Apparently the police station copier 'probably needed a service anyway' he mentioned... so off I went.
I drove the rest of the day abit slower than normal, and every time I travelled that road for the next few years, I always remembered that spot. -
Doing 110 mph on I-40 and catching up to a state cop. He pulled me over for a loose licence plate. I told him I have tools and will fix it right away. He left before I could even check. He had no proof that I was speeding.
Pulled over for speeding in Durango CO. Said yes sir no sir, got a warning ticket. I signed the ticket and the cop asked me after the signiture, "Don't you rent a trailer from me?".
A full year on I-25 I would pass a small town that the cop sat on the overpass and would watch for speeders. I knew he was there because I took over that town from another tech and he told me the cop was there.
One day that I was in a hurry, I forgot that he sat there. He pulled me over for speeding. When he got to my window, I was almost in tears from laughing so hard. I told him that I forgot he sits up there and it is my own fault I got popped. He let me go on a verbal because he didn't realise he was so obvious.
Many many more stories.
Let's hear some more! Why do they call it common sense?

I was pulled doing 55 in a 35. The MP wrote the ticket and I promptly turned the truck around and went to the MP station, walked up to the window, held the ticket up and said"Iam a contractor out here and just got a ticket." "Well, what do you want me to do about it?" was his reply. I said "I guess I need you to point me in the direction of someone who will be more helpful" He pointed to the door and told me to go down the hall to the first open door on the left and the only person who could help me was in there, her name was miss Faye. As I entered the room she was chewing out an MP for taking someones license, looked at me and ask what I wanted. I told her I was her copy guy and then I handed her the ticket and said I did not want to pay it. She looked it over and ask if I was guilty. "Yes ma'am, I am guilty as hell", I said. She folded it up and told me she would see what she could do, and it went away.
Side-note, the old MP station was the original Delta Force building, a long building, like a bunker that had thin windows and the main hallway was almost as wide as a two lane road. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment

Got pulled over in a small town (I was working 2 jobs then) for going 60 in a 45. Cop was an older gentleman and I had never gotten a ticket before. I started crying and was balling by the time he came to the window. I don't remember what I said. It was likely he couldn't understand what I was saying anyway. He just patted me on the shoulder, gave me a warning, and sent me home. Sometimes it pays to be a girl. Oh and don't you guys tell anyone, OK?Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

Not me but one of the other techs i used to work with.
A call came in for a shredder that was 30 minutes out of town at the police station. The tech just happened to be in that town already just about to leave. So he pulled in like 10 minutes later and the guy at the station see's him walk in and said "holy shit i should of been out patroling"
During the big fairs in town we put in copiers for free, they just pay the copies. It's usually like 15 or 20 bucks to get into a lot of these things. I just drive the company van in that is all decaled up with SHARP on the side. Usually nobody even cares, they just wave me through the gate. Last year i had a girl with me and the security lady looked at me and asked if BOTH of us were going to fix the machine. I looked at her with a stone cold look and replied with a very calm don't screw with me "YES". She rolled her eyes and off i wentEvil will always triumph because good is dumb.Comment

If it were me crying I'd probably not only get the biggest ticket the cop could justify, but also get pulled out of the car and beaten with a billy club...But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

Mine wasn't speeding while driving or anything of that nature....But about 2 weeks after 9-11 I was at defense mapping agency working on there copiers and needed to go grab some parts from my truck to repair the device. While I was gathering the needed parts the weather started getting bad...lighting, wind and a little bit of rain so I started running towards the building to not get so wet from the rain. This was a BIG mistake at the time on my part as there were two large military officers holding semi automatic weapons both yelling at me to get on the ground and to drop the boxes I was carrying.
Luckily I heard them yelling and the supervisor of the department I was working in was at the door waiting for me to escort me back to the copier saw what was going on. This is the first and last time I have ever had a gun pulled on me and it wasn't a lot of fun!!!!Accidents don't just happen. They must be carelessly planned.Comment

Not exactly law enforcement but.....
I was working at a Xerox service agency, went to the airport to fix a copier at the air side. Drove to the gate and was let in and told where to park. At the security gate was the guard that I usually see and a new recruit, and I mean right out of training school. The guard starts looking in the tool bag, laptop bag, parts boxes and so on. Then he starts asking about the dynamite and detonators, while winking at me. I stated that I switched to plastic explosives and was going to use the start button on the copier as the detonator. You should have seen the new guys face.. Then me and the guard started laughing as he waved me through...And Star Trek was just a tv show...yeah right!Comment

Here's another one.
I went to the courthouse one day to pay a speeding fine when I noticed a secretary having a problem with her typewriter.
I told her I would fix it for her if she would rush my payment through.
I paid the fine, but the ticket never showed on my record. Why do they call it common sense?

That's true. I can walk right into the local Juvenile detention center here, however we have a grocery distribution center here, and I have to be escorted to the copier there.I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.Comment

When I used to service the local prison's machines, they would ask me to open my toolcase and show them the contents before proceeding. Of course I had nothing there that could be used as a weapon - except for the large assortment of screwdrivers, pliers, and stuff like that.' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'
