Canon Advanced C5051 versus Ricoh Aficio C5501 versus Lanier LD650

Who is the winner in this matchup? I realize the Ricoh and Lanier are similar. We have 2 solid support companies to back them up. I really don't have any experience with Canon and was wondering pros/cons of these machines from pros who work on them every day. Let the round begin.....

    IMHO Canon wins.

I had a customer demo a C5501 and the fuser wasn't up to the task. It couldn't handle any heavy stock, the toner wouldn't fuse. And on regular paper it couldn't handle full bleed, after 3 or 4 copies it would start peeling off bits of toner and leave it all over every copier after. I don't mean to bash the C5501, the salesman just tried to sell it as "graphics color" and not "Business color". This truly is a "business color" copier, no heavy paper or full bleed and it works fine for things like color charts, graphs, or logo's.

The Canon on the other hand can handle full bleed no problem even though it is also "business color". I have not had any calls yet for problems with heavier stock, but I'm guessing it can handle somewhat heavier paper just fine.

I'm not familiar with the LD650, did you mean LD655? LD655 has the same product code (D089) as a C5501, same box just different sticker on the front.

dont like the color quality of the ricoh/lanier. I prefer the quality of the canon 5051 and I think it is easier to work on.

Wow this is great to know! The one thing we do on our current machine is a newsletter. We use Xerox 80lb cover double sided glossy paper. It is very heavy.

If the C5501 couldn't handle heavy stock very well that would be a big problem and we would have to outsource that job. Does anyone else have any input on heavier paper?

Sorry, I was mistaken it is the LD655.

I didn't realize copiers now could handle full bleed. That is a nice feature. Thanks for the reply!

Sorry I only saw the one reply and didn't scroll down to all the others. I think there was enough consensus on this issue to close it. Thanks again!

C5051 Canon ImageRunner Advance - Not My Best Lease Decision

I am eight months into a 3-year lease on the Canon 5051, and I've met and now know countless techs since that decision. If you are heavily reliant on Adobe products (CS3... old, I know, and Acrobat 8), I am suggesting you stay clear... it's a revolving door around here of one problem after another we call whack-a-mole. Everything from being unable to pull heavy paper from drawers for printing booklets (can only use side tray for anything above plain paper), to mailboxes that corrupt documents to misregistration and quality issues. Canon doesn't seem to know their product very well, and I believe I'm more of a Beta tester than anything. The lease is final, and irrevocable, so leasor beware.
