A big thumbs up to AOL. I can use some more paid calls. I am currently in the middle of replacing the development disengagement shaft on a 4600 that they only use re-manned cartridges on. I have made a lot of money cleaning up after the cheap stuff. I need the general public to remain technologically illiterate for about 20 more years til I can retire.

Re: AOL advises people to buy remanufactured toner

I having been selling remanufactured cartridges to our customers for laserjets only, and only for black and white printers for about 15 years.
I research the company I outsource from before buying from them as all companies are not the same when it comes to quality.
If the cartridges i receive start to go downhill (2 to 3 bad in 1 month) I find a different vendor.
I have been using my current vendor for about 5 yrs.
The quality is consistant, the price is about average to the market (maybe a little higher) and the customer service is excellant.

I have seen some very bad damage from junk cartridges that would take a book to list it all.

Toner cartridges like anything you have to do the research to be safe.

I will not sell color toner cartridges or ink as the damage cause to printers is just to great and the colors they create can vary way to much.

I am always willing to charge a customer who was, until my visit, trying to save a couple of bucks. Poor quality third party toner helps me in my crusade.

I love it when I get a call for a color MFP/printer where they install a reman cartridge and pukes all over the inside of the machine contaminating the other 3 units....Charge them for 4 OEM cartridges plus my labor of cleaning and readjusting the machine...PRICELESS!!!!

This is why I will not sell color cartridges.
The first HP CLJ 4600 I went to had toner stelagmites (sp) hanging from the fuser.
The customer had a pile of half used recycled junk cartridges sitting next to the printer.
She complained we sold her a POS printer. She also complained to the owner of the company I worked for at the time that the replacement of the fuser should be covered under warranty. I told the owner if he wanted to cheat hp he could do the paper work.

I work somewhere else now (my choice).

Or worse yet, when they insist on reman, try explaining to them that they can't mix and match brands. They just don't get it. Inevitably, I see 1 HP cartridge and the rest 2 or 3 different vendors' reman cartridges. I try to explain the firmware can tell from the chips whether or not they are genuine and you get imaging issues (light print or off color) when you mix/match them.

I've used it since day one, back in about 1995. I LOVE their spam filters, and I highly recommend it to NOOBS who don't know what they're doing online, as it affords some protection. Not to mention their file size limit for email has always been quite generous. I think it's 15mb for a free email account.
                  So don't laugh!
And don't knock it til you've tried it.
You don't need to install the software if you just want the email account.

OMG, if this douche-nozzle says, "toner" while pointing to a bottle of ink one more time I'm gonna kick someone's ass.

I'm not saying I'm completely against refurbished toner cartridges, but there are so many junk dealers out there and if you don't know what you're about you can end up with a damaged printer. Very few remanufacturers put out a quality product. Anytime corners get cut it's not good. I do understand the cost savings, though. Paying $88 for a reman when the OEM sells for $250 is almost too hard to resist. Lately the OEM's have been having issues with theirs. If you think they don't remanufacture, think again. They just don't like it when someone else makes money instead of them.

I would never reman ink cartridges. That never has a happy ending.

The company uses AOL instant messenger. In the AM it gives you news articles. Mostly originating from Huffington Post. Some of my buddies here know my AOL IM address. Makes some answers to questions faster than the forum, but we almost always post it back to help people out (unless they're asking me if I have a part available or the price).

There are some items we will use remans (like for some Panafaxes) but everything else is always OEM. We don't even use generics.
