Just wondering......I happen to be an Android guy myself. What do you use, what do you like and why?

Re: Any phone / gadget junkies here?
Android phone as well. I do however have an iPod touch and iPad so I get the best of both worlds. Some apps seem like they were made for the Apple devices and horribly ported over to Android. But personally, I would stick with Android even if T-Mobile ever gets the iPhone. Android is way more customizable, even without modifying it. iOS, on the other hand, even with jailbreaking still lacks certain features. iOS has more licensed apps and onthe iPod Touch 4th Gen, the retina display is phenomenal. -

I'd love to be a gadget junkie, if only I had the money...

Re: Any phone / gadget junkies here?
Amen. I'd love a touchscreen phone, but I know I'd bust the glass in no time at all. So, for now, it's an old motorola flip for personal use and a 'berry for work.
That said, the last gadget I snagged was one of the $99 HP Touchpads. No way I'd pay the original price but, for less than a Benjamin, I'm happy with it.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” (Isaac Asimov)Comment

Didn't list mine. Palm Pre with WebOs. Been a good little phone. Touchscreen and it is not fragile like the Apple's and Android's. I will probably be upgrading to Apple soon. My brother's got one and I've been playing on his a bit. I have to have a test drive before I buy. You have no idea what I went through deciding on my Pre. I always wanted a touchscreen, but until I got my Pre I didn't realize how much you can do with a smart phone. I don't know what I ever did without it. It's like having a PC in your pocket.Last edited by prntrfxr; 10-25-2011, 07:44 PM.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

I've got a Nokia N900, it runs Maemo 5 which (if my understanding is correct) is an abridged version of Linux.
I'm writing this very post on it right now in it's own (firefox based) web brower on the normal site you'd get on any normal PC, it's awesome!
Lots of free open source apps available, just not as user friendly as Android/iOS but plenty to tinker with.Comment

Re: Any phone / gadget junkies here?
@MrWho - I'm seriously considering flashing CM7, but I think it's still in the nightly stage for the Captivate. Plus my phone battery life SUCKS and flashing an AOSP Gingerbread ROM I'd probably get a few hours max. Right now I'm using Paragon RC6 which is a FroYo ROM.
@prntrfxr - I didn't even think to list WebOS because they aren't doing phones with it anymore. I also left out Windows because I've seen exactly 1 out in the wild. It's a shame too. That really had a lot of potential. I do have to say that the touch screens on a lot of Android phones are made out of Gorilla glass. Dropped mine a few times and not a ding.
@Hemlock - did you get it as soon as the offer hit? I wanted one, but by the time I got to it everyone was sold out.
So, right now I'm rockin' my old Captivate and a 7" Galaxy Tab (the original one). Personally, I LOVE my Tab. Almost everyone in my family has one now. And I'm seriously hoping they're giving away some good schwag at the Samsung dealer convention.... I'd love to get my hands on the new 7" Tab or the 8.9. 10.1 on a tablet is just too big of a form factor for me.
As far as phones go, I'm on AT&T and ticked that the Galaxy Nexus isn't coming out for a while. Bummer.Comment

Ten minutes to order the 1st (8 am, WalMart pickup, had it that day), 5 hours to order the next three (10 pm, HP online, their servers kept crashing & took 6 weeks for delivery).“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” (Isaac Asimov)Comment

Got a blackberry bold, does everything I need it to, but unfortunately doesn't do a lot that I'd like it to do.
Just seems there are 50 apple apps and 200 android apps for every 1 blackberry app.Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?Comment

Re: Any phone / gadget junkies here?
I own a Galaxy 5 - battery life always sucks, but at least it now sucks less, since I've got more control over CPU usage (had before by rooting the phone and installing the No-Frills CPU, but still it's an advantage for those who don't have it). it also helps that 2.3 has better ram/cpu management (my phone came with 2.1).' Edit: I am still not sure about the Iphone. I just have a problem with companies that like to Monopolize things. This is one reason I will not ever go with AT&T. Maybe the Samsung Galaxy Touch II...hmm...at least I'd be able to use the CTN app.
I even went with a smaller local bank and was perfectly happy until Bank of America bought them out. I can't stand them but I like the convenience of always being near one, keeping my original account #, (which I know by heart) and having my 3 accounts with direct deposit (which is always a pain when I have to switch. Nov 5th is Bank Transfer Day; go with a smaller, fiercely independent regional or, better yet, a credit union.“Anti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'” (Isaac Asimov)Comment

I have an old BlackBerry on Sprints network and I'm sure it's the thing that is giving me gray hair. I'm REALLY starting to hate it. With the constant Requesting bar I see and constant hourglass I see as well. It's really starting to suck.Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.
