Re: Any phone / gadget junkies here?
I used to think the same thing. Then I bought my first smart phone (Pre) and wondered what I ever did without it.
1. I can Google the answer to any question immediately. (Before I would make a mental note to look something up when I got home but always forgot.)
2. I can send texts with a full size keyboard (I couldn't do that on my old flip phone with the number pad.)
3. I can take pretty good quality photos with it and email/text them directly from my phone. (I didn't think that was important but I use it all the time to help other techs out and get help from others in return.)
4. I can use my phone like a jump drive (used it to set up my home network).
5. I have access to wonderful apps that organize my time/day.
6. If I'm waiting in line or at doctor's office, I can check email, pay bills, watch a video, send a text message, play games, make a grocery list or menu, surf the web, listen to music, or use the phone to pass the time (some of this requires headphones). I no longer get angry waiting for anything.
7. Yes the text is smaller, especially on websites. However, many of the most used sites are mobile friendly or have their own apps so the text is no longer tiny. There are ways to zoom a screen to see text better. My phone is more like 2.75"x5". You've uses a 3x5 card before, haven't you? It's not that small.
8. I can use or have the following on my phone:
-Email on the fly (including opening and sending attachments)
-Text without typing (Swype capability)
-Open MS word, excel, and pdf files on my phone
-Sign my signature on documents
-keep a checkbook register
-log my mileage and fuel usage
-scan documents
-count calories, get recipes, and record what I eat (lost 14 lbs in 3 weeks, so far!
-Go to copytechnet on the fly
-Pay bills online on the fly
-record notes in my voice recorder
-scan barcodes
-look up phone numbers in phonebook app
-track UPS packages with UPS app
-send and receive instant messages
-Create and send documents
-watch netflix videos
-stream music
-use the GPS or Google maps to find my way
-Check out what's selling on Craigslist
-Read my Bible reading for the week
-Play games
-Sync my home and work computer with my phone
-apartment hunt/job hunt/house hunt on the fly
-download and read books on the fly
-shop for anything
-keep track of car maintenance
-watch you tube videos
. I no longer own/use the following:
-alarm clock/clock radio
-home stereo system
-stopwatch
-timer
-electronic address book
-video game system
-CD/Tape Player in the car
-pocket organizer
-mileage tracker
-no longer call the bank once a day to check my balance
-phonebook
-calculator
-spanish/english dictionary (used to bring it to work with me)
-book map in the car
-photos (don't carry them with me anymore)
-mp3 player
-use/carry a sketchpad to draw something
That seems to be unfashionable these days.
Have you noticed that if ten work colleagues are in a room together taking a break, three quarters of them get their phone out. At the best one might make a useless phone call, the others texting or quite happily reading impossibly small text on a internet site. Someone else enjoying a movie on a 3"x2" screen.
I am not a phone junkie...
